Hi everyone, having a slight problem with my new '30.... bought it a few months ago and stuck it all back together, 89 model with standard jetting, filter, slip on ART can. Got her running but it has a real crappy misfire around 5k and doesn't want to pull above that under load. Will scrape through in 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc but thats about it....thinking it must be a CDI problem now but wanting to check before splashing out yet more cash if anyone could help me out please???
Cheers guys,
Russ

Yeh it was restricted but we took the washers out and still had the same problem.
So far we've put new plugs in, stock airfilter, stripped cleaned and checked the carbs, matched up the jets to stock, gone over all the wiring, speedo is wired up correctly with no mods too it, theres nothing wired in which may cause upset. Also got a new battery and reg/rec...pretty much gone over everthing to try and get it standard just to run which only leaves to cdi left to check.
It did have an intermittent spark on the plugs so we checked all the leads and tried different plugs which all turned out to be fine so an indicator maybe that its the cdi playing up....Its not running on 2 cylinders though as I fried my fingers last night checking lol
Hopefully CSMJ1's spare cdi will bring the little beaut on song...fingers crossed!!

As Rhory hinted at it sounds like it has gone into 'limp home' mode that happens when the speedo plug is removed. Check that the wires going into the back of the speedo (and the cdi end) are all good, the small pins can sometimes come out of the plugs. It could even be one snapped somewhere in the loom.
When you remove the speedo plug it causes 2 cylinders to not fire above 5000 revs. Something to think about maybe

rock on..went to see Russ and his dad, Bob.
A nice moto they have there..and a '24 too - hoarding the V4s
The bike did have the speedo disconnection issue so plugged in my derestrictor and stopped the 5.5k issue.
It was running as a triple though - no1 cylinder only firing after winding some revs on. It had cold pipe til you got it over 7k and then it almost started as a 4.
Swapped known working plugs between the 1 and 3 cylinders.
I suspect it is a fuelling issue as the non firing cylinder is not as wet as I would expect. It is a K model, chopped system running an ART can with 110 jets.
Bob is going to change the jets and see how that goes.

russ/bob, do you have 4 110 jets ?
the reason i ask is i'm looking to buy either 110 or 112 jets and i need 4, i should have some standard 115-118 jets laying about or if your looking bigger ,say 120/122's i think i have those?
maybe we could do a little swapsies for keeps ?
glad to hear the speedo problem was sorted
