The cam chain adjustment is auto, The valves need the cams out to change any shims but you can check the clearances with just the cam cover off. :?

Valve clearances are easy if you know what you're doing.

Easily turn into a nightmare if you don't

Use the manual - measure the tollerances for each valve and note them down. Then lift the cams out. There are shims between the cam follower and the top of the valves they should have a number on them write these down too.

Add the two numbers per valve together, that gives you total valve clearance then see if you can juggle the shims around so you only buy the the ones you need. Refit everything and recheck the valve tollerances.

A tip is to put paint on the cam chain and cam wheel so you can just line the cams up quicker.
