NC30 gearbox whine in 2nd gear only

I wonder if somebody has come across this before. Is it associated with the selector drum and forks or the actual gears.

Most gearbox related issues i've read about affect 2nd gear for some reason. I can't remember the exact reasoning but i've heard it before :) someone else might shed more light

it is a gear that takes a lot of beating up from the bike...
