I need a link pipe but not no for sure what make my down pipes are so its going 2 be hard 2 get one but what i am thinking of trying is a making a set up along the lines of the new R6's has anyone seen this done on the fzr or would ther be any down sides 2 it?
i think it would be fairly easy 2 do just stumpy the end can and get a small bit of pipe from the down pipes into the can which is going 2 be easyer 2 sort out that a complete new link pipe.
any thoughts welcome

An R6 system is a lot more than that, it effectively has the "can" under the bike and what you see sticking out is just an end piece. The R6 can do this because the engine is higher in the frame, the stacked gearbox allows the frame to be shorter which in turn lengthens the swingarm for the same wheelbase. Carrying the can under the bike gives more mass centralisation rather than hanging it at the back under the seat or to one side.
Applying that to the 3TJ and really it doesn't make much sense. The weight distribution is very neutral which is why you get such good handling. The engine and sump are low down (comparde to modern bikes). The frame is long (due to the unstacked gearbox) so the swingarm is shorter. There isn't really much room to get more pipework down there. You need the length to get some back pressure for the engine and as engines resonate down the pipe you can tune the length to travel back up and help scour the cylinders.
After that of course it will sound stupid loud, remember 105db is the usuall standard for trackdays which will be a "not for road" can and freeflow filter, anymore and your attract the wrong kind of attention.
Sooooo .... really just put a reasonable can on it.

the likes of back pressure and stuff like that was the things that put me off it i reckon i could do it easy enough but as i say its things like back pressure and maby other stuff that puts me off it.

as mr chicken says an instantly obvious outcome is the noise. A short 'maggot' style pipe like the ones tyga sell does indeed look the mutts, but having recently heard one on a gsxr 400 I can say that they are exceptionally noisy and you won't be taking it out on any tracks. As for the plod, if they weren't deaf before the pulled you, they certainly would be after!

i think il just look into getting a link pipe made up.i had already thought about the likes of back pressure etc...as you are shorting the system a good bit but if that hadnt have been a problem then i reckon i would have been able 2 sort something out easy enough.
thats that idea scrapped lol

it would be possible to do but the pipework would resemble a bowl of overturned spagetti.....lol
