After many emails/viewings in the 'wanted' section on this forum, I've managed to acquire a cheap (yet in surprisingly good condition for the price) 1992 NC30 from a chap local to me.
She came with all the bodywork, a scorpion slip on, braided hoses all round, a brand new set of BT090's, new plugs, air-filter and chain and sprockets only 300km's old all at the measly cost of 500 shiny queens golden mc'nuggets delivered!

Here she is 1 hour after she was dropped of when I'd removed all the panels/tank:


My plans are to spend this winter and the early part of next year to complete my first ever ground up rebuild and end up turning her into a mechanically sound track bike.
The work will start next weekend, and of course i will be keeping you nosy buggers up to date with whats going on (no offence meant)
My total budget is £1000. Yet this must include track fairing, re-conditioning the rear and front suspension, race rear-sets/clip-ons and various other little bits and bobs. So wish me luck!

I'll leave you with one thing to ponder...Does anybody have a set of good condition rear-sets available?

dont bother about clip ons

get some ally bars from winning bars on ebay (£10 for set) and you save a kilo over stock bars, the clip ons are slly and pritty light as standard.

stock sprockets on nc30 is 15/40 on nc35 their 15/35

standard clamps for the clip ons weight a ton,get them off,rick o does lovely SES ones....

Ok well over the last few days ive done a few bits and bobs to NC number 2.

I had both rads off in which i cleaned and re-shaped some of the fins. They are both now in excellent condition, daylight peeking through both if i hold them to the sun Coolant was then replaced as it only had tap water in it
Whilst they were off i thought i'd check the plugs to see if they were changed, and they were in immaculate condition with no signs of wear at all.
I've also had to replace the fuel line as it had more cracks in it that a 90 year old grannys face.
The airfilter was removed, and again this is brand new (so the chap wasn't lying when he said he had it serviced 300km's ago) yet this was a white paper element? is that just a pattern part?
Oil and filter were replaced just to make sure though

The front calipers were removed, as were the pads, i gave those dirty buggers a blooming good clean now there's no awful screeching when i apply the front breaks. Unfortunately the little rubber boot on the master cylinder is knackered, this wont affect anything will it? It isnt leaking fluid at all.
The rear shock had a terrible squeek when i bounced up and down on the rear end, so i used some spray grease on the dogbone and top linkage and now that problems solved. Its the gas rear shock so is it normal to hear a slight hiss when you compress the rear end? or is this a leak?

The rear disc is knaffed so i'll be getting a new one of those with some new pads, any ideas on a good value for money disc? im thinking about a stealth wavy rear from RO?
A lot of the electrics were held in the wrong place by cable ties so that was sorted, does anybody know if an un-finned reg/rec is the original or is it a pattern?
I spent an hour with some parrafin, chain cleaner and chain lube as the chain was coated in crud, also had the front sprocket cover off and cleaned all that up as it was caked in old chain lube and thick black oily stuff.

I didnt take any pictures of the work i did because it was only boring stuff that you guys know anyway but here's a snap of what it looks like now. The total cost of everything i've spent including parts and the bike itself stands at £531.50.


Note: As you can tell im a professional photographer with the finger and all... lol

Although, what I've spent on NC number 1 i'd rather not discuss...
Yet, it does put a smile on my face when i see packages like this turn up at my door...
