Petrol broblems

Hello I am a new member of this forum so I hope I am doing this the correct way. I have a VFR 400 NC30 that doesn't wana run. The patrol doesn’t seem to be getting to the engine. If you take the rubber tube off the fuel tap and tip the petrol down your self it will run for as long as you want. But when you put all together the petrol won’t go from the tank to the engine so I think it might be the diaphragm in the tap assembly cos I can’t find any blockages anywhere. Has anyone had the same problem and solved it cos if not I might have to buy a tap assembly and there only 1 place i've found selling them and they want around £130. And I’m not sure if that’s the problem.

Thanks

Louie

Could be an air lock if the vacuum pipe wasnt put on the fuel tap?

Hey Louie,

You need to check that your tap works at all - when turned on, does it leak?

If not then the diaphragm is probably good. You now need to check that the vacuum pipe that opens the tap is present, and if there, it works!

You can test this by getting a piece of tubing and sucking the vacuum open yourself - easier with the tank off..

It is likely that the tube from the cylinder that is attached to the tap is perished. I would contact a member, Rick Oliver, on here for a bargain replacement

Welcome to the site...we'll get you up and running

As said, there vaccumn operated fuel taps.

Theres a small pipe that runs from the cylinder to the fuel tap that allows fuel to flow when the engine is cranked / running. You may have split this pipe / its come off etc etc.

Turn the fuel tap to ON with the petrol pipe off and see if you get fuel come out, if not the vaccumn part is probably working properly so you have a problem with the small pipe, they often get brittle and come off.

£130 is an absolutely ridiculous price for a Fuel tap, regardless of wether it is new or not. If you end up paying that, You are a fool!!

I'll sell you mine for £100 and its HRC modified which sounds like it will solve the problem your having. Then I will buy one of ebay for £20 and get wankered on the rest. LOL!!!

I recently sold my other Petrol Tap complete assembly, which was HRC modified but converted back for sale, for £20 I think it was..

Just look around places.
Ask people here and there and you shall find!! LOL

However, i dont actually think you need a new one anyway. Ha Ha. HRC Mod is the first thing that comes to mind for me.

Happy to help.

The HRC mod is not always a good thing. If the carbs allow fuel to overflow iunto the cylinders you can properly feck up your motor as it tries to turn over with fluid in the cylinder - you cannt compress the fuel...so the bearings and conrods take a kicking.

The mod is for race bikes that might suffer fuel starvation at sustained open throttle running.

I would advise against it and repair the tap.
