Recently acquired an rsp.
Unfortunately the key has completely disappeared. (The joys of not living in the same place as your bike)

If it doesn't turn up, whats the best course of action? Can i get a new key if i have the frame/ignition no. or whatever? Or is it a case of changing the lock bits?(i hope not!)

boring topic i know, but cheers anyway everyone.
martin.

I don't suppose you have the key number written down ... not many of us do.

Two ways to do this ... get to the ignition barrel and the number is stamped on there ... you can order the key from that.

Or

Take a lock ... the tank or seat lock if they match to a lock smith and they can cut a key from that.

Don't know if you've got it sorted yet, it was a wile ago, but i've got the same problem with my 3tj, it came with no keys, anyway, apparently there's less tumblers in the tank and seat lock, so it's difficult to cut a key to fit the ignition from them, but if you take out the ignition and give these chaps http://www.express-keys.co.uk/auto.html the number they'll send you a new key for not a lot, if there's no number, you can send em the barrel and they'll make 2 new keys for £30, which is what i've got to do as the locks damaged, still cheaper than 3 new locks

Sorry not been around for a while.

Cheers for all the replies guys. Well its been a bit of a saga but I got it sorted. I ended getting frustrated and took the the ignition barrel out and giving it to the locksmith up the road. As Dog says the seat lock and tank have less pins in them than the ignition. The locksmith did a nice job and made me a key that actually works better than the original. Unfortunately it doesnt work in the fuel tank, i travelled 140 miles to find that out! Luckily the original turned up at more or less the same time. So i was saved on that front, still took hours of cock ups putting the ignition back in! :x

Suffice it to say i now have a note of the key number, which is on the key or in 1wg's underneath the ignition on the steering lock plate. I was spurred into actually going and getting a spare cut when the key fell out on the way to the petrol station the other day. Thank god for belly pans!

Thanks for all the help everyone.
