Ok,

Having just bought an FZR400RRSP - and paying over the odds for what I thought was a mint bike (it's not) i find the thing is leaking fuel from the fuel tap and I've tried gasket seal but to no avail.

Please, does anyone know where i can find a replacement or what other fuel tap I can use.

Thank you for your advice as beginning to feel like I've been ripped off and desparate for some help.

Lee

not convinced it's always the tap that causes it.

I had a similar leak from my FZ750 and it was because after refitting a new one I hadn't nipped up the screws enough - the original screws being standard bloody cheesehead posi type, it was hard to really get em tight.

I swapped for a set of allen key screws with washers - got em done up much tighter, but the fuel leaked past the washer. Got a better set of the screws, which have a flanged base that covers the entire "wet" area where they nip up against the tap and hey presto - no more leaking.

I'd make sure you have a clean base on the tank, clean up the gasket on the tap and then make sure you have really good screws and get them tightened properly.

If I'd gone down the gasket sealing route I'd still be faffing around with it.

good luck

Be careful - gasket sealant gets dissolved by petrol which merrily washes through the system, although the fuel filter will probably catch it.

Take the tap off and check the gasket is ok - not cuts or niks, before you try the other fixes.
If you do need parts then Fowlers in Bristol do them - you have to quote the frame number before you'll be served though. They do mail order

fowlers was about 23.00 last time i got one. i bought one and it didnt cure the problem. it was the petrol pipe between the tap and pump. looked sound with no perishing etc, even cut off an inch of it and tried it again, still leaked. it looked like it was the tap though, had me beat for ages. swapped the pipe and happy days! just a thought. ive had two fzr's do this now! hope this helps
