Some sort of clutch gear problem

It looks like the push rod (I think it's called (the thing that turns when you twist the gear selector thingy from the other side, moves in and out perpendicular to the bike too), not too sure) needs locating in a certain position. There are two holes drilled out and the first has a spring around it (this is difficult to explain, I'll get a picture soon). I put the springed hole onto this pin looking thing so that it can shift a cam looking thing.
These are the pics of my clutch and what problems I'm having. I have no idea, don't want to do it wrong. Hope someone can help.
