I know there has been a couple of threads regarding exhausts, but i want your true opinions on what the benefits are of fitting a twinstack system.
Im currently running an unknown sprung race system with a Harris race can, its got #120 jets front and #122 rear, and when running against another vfr with twinstack its well down on power, and im having to make it up in the corners.
the bike is geared correctly for the track and im running a stock motor.
If i was to get a twinstack system what would you recomend jetting wise as a starting point and also would it be worth investing in a ignitech box and getting it all set on the dyno together??
Ive been so use to just programming a pc111 in the past im not use to malling around with carbs...

Any advice would be great,

IMO a stack is not going to be the only difference between your bike and the other one you say is faster.

I have had loads of exhausts including a stack and I run open RVF carbs with 130 mains in with an ignitech box etc.

Have fettled a lot.

At the end of the day you need to get more air into the bike if you want more power.

Yeh i get that im gonna have to do shit loads of fettling to get the most power out of it, im just thinking of where to start from and which are the basic mods to go with and then just build on them as i go along..

Just trying to get your opinions on what to start with...is the twinstack and jetting a good start?

For the money you can spend on a stack you could probably get ram air fitted and sorted and maybe some light head work too..

removal of quietening gears, total loss, chop a load of weight off it etc etc..

It is not a silver bullet fitting a stack..

Just sorted the total loss out, everthing is stripped off that needs be,and the suspenders are all sorted.
Whats the score with the quietning gears then??

They sap a small amount of power from the engine, its not a too major job and it all helps.

It is easy - just do it when you are next doing the valve clearances and whip the cams and central cam drive out.

Did it to my race bike and it sounds lovely. Not ridden it in anger yet as it was behaving strange at the last TD I took it too - handling wise.

SO..ram air for you and see how that helps!

Did you make your own ramair scoop? or have you just fitted a hrc carb tray and removed the air filter snout, or is it a case of all or nothing as in carb tray, open carbs, hrc carb kit ect...
