Modified Forks

Okay I need help again, back on the project V4 after the NC29 wiring mishap hopefully thats the last distraction and I can finally see this bike through the building stage and have some fun on it in 2009

I have several sets of forks all from the earlier models which will be okay for the meantime, I am aware that I need to upgrade either with Mr Oliver's Kit or some other form of progressive springs and suitable oil etc etc however in the first instance and to enable me to move the bike about I must get a set on it.

Out of the selection box I have stripped a pair of forks which bore 'racetech' stickers being a sceptic I presumed they were stickers, as they have come apart the oilways have been modified and I don't know what to do with them. When I say oilways I mean the thingy (descriptive I know) in the base of the fork that bolts into the slider !

How do I know what oil to use as there will obviously be a different flow through the fork ? How do I gauge whether the springs are modded etc etc

Suggestions ?

Easiest way to tell if the springs are aftermarket is if they're progressive (std) or linear. There are specs in the haynes manual also for the standard springs which may help.

As for oil in the past I have just tried different weights in unknown forks until it feels right. Very scientific.
