Bike sitting for months, bad starting, off fuel / drain carb

Oh dear. When I last used the NC30 a few months ago, I didn't know that it would be the last ride for a few months, then I forgot about it. So it's been sitting there with the fuel tap on and no fuel stabilizer. I started it just now to take it for an MOT - it was a pig but got there in the end. Lacked power at low revs for a couple of miles then seemed to sort itself out, but it was not a happy bunny.

I'm not sure when I'll be using it next, so what's the recommended procedure? Something like:
1. Add fuel stabilizer.
2. Let bike idle for ten minutes.
3. Turn fuel tap off and leave bike until it conks out?

Do I need to drain the carbs (shock horror) and if so how difficult is this?

Finally, is there any non-snake-oil additive that I can chuck into the tank which might clean things up without me having to drain the carbs etc?

I'd get some fresh fuel in it and go for a decent ride out..get some heat through it and the new fuel thoroughly into the system.

had a similar problem after winter lay up put some profi fuel max in done the trick or as cmsmj1 says it might just need fresh fuel and a good run for same result.
