The 954's forks are 50mm wide as a quick search in google told me, and im pretty sure that the rvf forks are 41mm, you could get hold of some 954 yokes and put them on. or just get the rvf forks set up properly.

thanks for the advise i just thought that because the 954 is a more recent bike the range of internals would be better and maybe cheaper

I don't know if it'll influence your decision but Dan Kyle - suspension gurus in the 'States - told me the 929/954 forks have the worst stiction of any OEM Honda forks he's seen. I believe the RVF forks are 50 mm btw

Me neither lol. Stiction is what prevents forks or shocks from returning to exactly their previous position after movement. OK by that I mean if you were to sit on the bike in riding position and have a friend measure the amount of fork tube left showing between the oil seal and the end of the stanchion, then have your friend push down on the front end, release it and remeasure, the difference between the 1st and 2nd measurement would be caused by stiction. Your big money aftermarket forks like Ohlins have very low stiction ... some OEM units are so bad they can make accurately setting the sag difficult if not impossible. I don't know that much about it but I know how to set up the static and rider sag on my bikes and adjust dampening. I find the OEM NC35 forks pretty damn good ... way better than the OEM units on my SP2.

Stiction is a contraction of "static friction"
Basically you can think of it as how slippery the stanchions are and how much the seals contact with them cause friction..
