haven't been on the site for a whle but just starting to prep my NC29 for track day instructing.
Has anyone tried replacing the coils with coiless caps ( I have some spare ones from my R6 1999 model), i'm going to be running this with an HRC ecu marked EK8 (bit faded) any help here would be great.

Hmm I remember one of the other aussies on here has the CBR6 plug/coil caps in his bike. Wouldn't think it would be that hard to do if you have a wiring diagram and some time to play.

Don't remember if it was Alixta or Matty69, I remember seeing pics of it.

ZRX stick coil wiring harness build

Here's some pics of my wiring layout using a Kaw/ZX9 donor harness,
I use a spare head as a jig, but spacing on the conniectors is 3.5 in.,
center to center, all connections are sleeve crimp and silver soldered.
the last aft 5 to 7 in. into bike coil oem connectors are color matched
to help id, I stagger the splices to reduce bulk and possible shorting.

Coil connectors numbered Left to right(1-4), here's the connections,
Note BP means oem connector into coils, LH + RH is pos. on stick coil
connector.

#1 LH to LH BP Red(1/4 coil)
#1 RH to #4 LH(series jumper)
#2 LH to RH BP Red(2/3 coil)
#2 RH to #3 LH(series jumper)
#3 RH to BP Green(2/3 coill)
#4 RH to BP Black (1/4 coil)

Pics. #1. basic layout soldered
#2. shrink tubing + pretape
#3. tape wrap and male connectors to oem harness.

BTW the last pic is of a mod. Honda harness, differrent. colors at stick
coil conn. than ZX9.

It would be interesting to see if the 4 coil solution is heavier than the 2 coil standard, surely there must be economies of scale in being able to fire two plugs off one coil?

There is an easier way.

I have made up a couple of little z shaped brackets out of aluminium and bolted them first to the coils and then into the old coil mount mounting holes. I also had to lengthen a couple of the HT leads and just bought some from an auto shop and made them up. As I was pressed for time I didn't get a chance to make up a proper mount to join the two coils together (the first one I made fouled the carb cables) so resorted to a cable tie. It's now been on the bike for 4 months and has done 4 race days to no ill effect.

The only problem is that the wires for the cables can be a bit of a pita when putting the ram airbox back on, but will fix this up in due course.

I fell over a set of stick coils and am going to fit them as I build a new loom from scratch finally getting rid of the last foot or so of unneccessary wiring loom coiled behind my tacho.

I've had a search through the threads and found a few handly links and info however am stuck on 2 things.

1. the Std NC29 coils earth by being bolted to the frame, how do these earth? (Do they need to?)

2. Anyone know where I can buy 4 female plugs to attach to the feckers? I can't find anything with any of the usual electrical component suppliers!
