Rear wheel stuck...!

Hi All,
I need to get the tyres changed on the 30 but a couple of weeks ago I tried to get it sorted but couldn't get the rear wheel off! It was stuck fast. Does anyone have any suggestions? Yes, I have tried kicking it!!
I don't really want to have to heat anything up for fear of knackering the nice white paint :(

The garage will only take loose wheels if I'm bringing in my own tyres...

Thanks

Same happened to me a few weeks back when i took the rear wheel out to do my shocker....i got a piece of wood about a foot long and covered the end with a piece of rag and gently kept tapping it with a small lump hammer from the sprocket side till i felt it move,i then held the spokes and with my thumbs on the hub pulled it off ;) ....must admit it was pretty hard and i thought it would never come off!!

Its just a case of using extreme force until the corrosion between the hub and wheel snaps and off she pops!!

When re-fitting, I have always applied a copiuos amount of copper grease to both the axle and the hub face, aswell as the wheel center itself and I never have any problems getting it off. If it doesnt just come off in your hands after that, a tiny tap with a rubber mallet will unsieze it no problems.

For now though, i would suggest covering up your wheel andtyre, brake discs and caliper and basically everything other than the joint and then spraying lots of WD40 or penetrant oil onto the joint and give it a good hour to soak in. A few more taps with the mallet and it should come off.

as above, but try undoing the nut a bit and going up and down your drive a few times or somewhere very similar and safe.

I had the same problem a while back, tried all the brute force nothing worked.

I ended up taking out the whole wheel with spindle, disc etc and took it to the local engineering shop and they out it on a chinese press. It took them about 2 ins and no damage whatsoever.

Mine was well and truly stuck, like just about everything else on my bike. I used a puller from machine mart...

Tightened it up reasonably tight, then used a mallet. Re-tighten and try again.
Not ideal, but it worked quite well.
Good luck. Joe

I tried for ages to get my rear wheel off with the wood and hammer method. You need lots of patience.
Only done it the once. Since then I've taken it to my local bike garage and asked them nicely to change my tyres for me. They only charged me £20 to change them so its hardly worth the hassle of taking the wheels off myself as it costs £12 to fit tyres to loose wheels anyway. Why struggle?

I would agree with Jo, less hassle taking it to the garage and let them sort it, i had the same problem a while back after newly powder coating the rear wheel.

Ended up i took out the whole rear assembly, disc and all. Took it to the local garage and they used a chinese press, it took about 2 minutes and no damage at all.

You could stick a bit of grease in between the wheel and the hub, it should come off easily every time then.

I've never had any problems if it's taken off regularly (still have needed a rubber mallet/kick though!).

Mine didnt manage to put up much of a fight when it tried seizing on me. Big Wooden mallet against the tyre a few times... off she comes
