My poor NC30 exhaust has started to blow at the small section underneath the bike (them stupid collars have rotten through)
3 mechanics want BIG brass to fix this issue (£90-140) just for a tiny piece of stainless sleeving and labour.
Ive descided to take the job on myself, but dont have access to a tig/mig welder
I was thinking of using some high temperature exhaust filler, a few stainless clamps or stainless tie raps, with some high temp glass fibre exhaust wrap.

Any ideas if this would work?
This would only be a tempary fix, hopefully lasting for a year or so.

I dont know about the rest, but there should be a little thing that says "subscribe topic" this will give you e-mail notifications if someone replies.

I would be getting someone else to weld the collars on - have seen it done for £30 or £40 before...

making a bodge like you suggest will cost time and money better spent getting it done right first time.

ive also tried getting a mobile welder out and he wont do it for less than 100 sheets either

ive also tried to get the flaming exhaust off my bike and the c**t is siezed on (havn't tried getting it off at the rear cylinder yet, just the manifold with the 3 rusty orange looking bolts and studs, the front cylinder undone fine!) and yes i did spray 30 tins of wd40 on the bugger first and left soak for a day or so lol.

I really dont wanna take the rear wheel and shock off just to get the 'zaust system off

a cheap quick fix for small holes get yourslef some stainless shim two jubilee clips and some exhaust putty you can buy the shim plate from halfords .its very thin plate that after using filler/putty to fill the hole you cut the shim to size(use tin snips) then form it around the repair to create a tube dont patch it wont work then secure the shim with the two jubilee clips it anit going to last forever but maybe it will help you save some pennys (its not easy trying to weld f**ked exhausts no steel to weld just rust tends to make that little hole massive ) .

gargh, this is the only problem ive had with the bike in 9 months

ill try this exhaust putty, ive seen its pretty cheap!
anyone used a specific brand (or a link to it would be grand) as i dont wanna buy sum shoddy stuff that will just melt a week after aplication lol.

It seems you are putting off the inevitable time when you need t tka the pipes off, to either fix them properly or to replade them with a Jap stainless system..

I would take the system off, post it to Graeme France, or Geoff33 - am sure both of these guys can have the collars on for you for a better fee than £100!!

Then you know it will last and never fail again.

your bodging wishes strike me as a buy cheap, buy twice kind of deal.

money is very weak at the moment, so i think a tempary bodge will have to be the case (i am usually known for getting a job done, and getting it done well, so this is unlike me). I will get the exhaust replaced when the 'kerching' starts filling my pockets again
