OK, so what do you have to do to a NC29 engine to make it FAAAAAAST

I'm asking from a racing point of view really, so it needs to remain a 400! (In the UK, does the +1mm overbore rule apply to Hondas?)

• Which HRC bits do you NEED?
• Anything to watch out for?
• Main DO's and DON'Ts?
• Which parts from other bikes (if any) would you need?
• Money no object, what would you do and what results can be achieved?
• Where do you get all the required parts from?

My bike so far has a full race system, HRC copy ramair box (on it's way) and a Dynojet stage 1 kit. Pretty basic so far.

To my knowledge the +1mm oversize doesnt apply as Honda dont make a piston that size, therefore you're not allowed to use one.
You could try and see if you can get your hands on an HRC cdi unit to let it rev out a bit...but they're like rocking horse shit. You could also go total loss on the ignition to shed a few pounds off the crank....that'll let the bike rev a bit quicker however I'm led to believe you'll sacrifice drive off the start due to flywheel weight.

After that you're looking at lightened balanced cranks and cams and a bit of headwork which doesnt come cheap......I'm in the middle of getting this done to one of mine at the minute and I never have my hand out of my wallet!!!

Apart from the mods listed in the thread Parus has linked you'd be looking at;

HRC CDI (or one of the programmable ones)
Degree the cams (or have them reground if someone out there offers this for the NC29)
Consider flatslides (although I haven't got mine working yet)
Larger radiator (race engine will get hotter)
Deck the head, but this must be done very carefully due to the gear driven cams

Then it all comes down to how carefully it was assembled and how good the various people were who did the work.

All other mods are suspension, wheels, brakes etc.

Greggo. Are you going to do all your planning modifications by yourself or send engine to mechanics ?

I'll have an engineer do the crank and lighten the flywheel, while the head work (porting) will hopefully be done by someone a bit special (he does no work for the public, only professional teams). Those two bits are beyond the home mechanic!

The complete assembly, cylinder honing, piston and rod balancing etc will be done by me. I'm itching to start, but I don't even see the engineer for another 2-3 weeks!

I have just finished fully logging the entire 3D HRC map for the NC29. This work was done on behalf of RICKOLIVER in the VFR forum and He would be able to supply you an Ignitech unit fully programmed with the HRC map. cheers
