Re: NC30 clock change and no start.
My understanding of the model 600 is that the battery voltage has to be higher than 14 volts before the green battery state led lights. The charger only supplies 600mA so it could take a while to get the battery up to 14 volts depending on the battery state at start of charging.
13.4 volts may not illuminate the greed led but still suggests a close to fully charged battery. However to be sure that all cells are ok, you should do a load test. Run the headlights on high beam while monitoring the battery voltage. Battery voltage will slowly drop but should take 20 minutes or so to fall to 12.0 volts. A dramatic voltage drop to 10 or 8 volts indicates 1 or 2 cells have failed.

its a slow charger and depending on the state of the battery may never get to just green.
I suggest nothing wrong with the battery charger, only the battery

I was just about to mention that, I'm thinking of an NC 30, there is another near me missing panels that I will look at first though. Quite a few on gumtree locally just now

Certainly looks like it...davethetrucker wrote:Is that your bike now up for sale on gumtree ersan?
Perhaps you might consider buying a straight 400/4 next. They're generally considered to be easier to maintain over an NC30... another benefit being that the consistent entertainment factor you bring to the forum will be maintained.
Maintain.

Which one on Gumtree? The 'basket case'?
Edit: no, found it now. I think there's one too many zeros on the price, and no, that's not a joke considering what we know about it!

That doesn't mean the battery is good. It needs load testing. Try your nearest Halfrauds, they offer load testing FOC.xivlia wrote:the battery voltage does show 13.40v
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: NC30 clock change and no start.
I would run a mile. If they're swapping your bike plus £1900 for a K5, it can only be another basket case. Having had a look at various websites, the cheapest ones command a price of a little under £3K. Even if all the unresolved issues with your NC were waved away overnight and it was nice and tidy, I doubt it would fetch a four figure sum, especially in part exchange.
If I recall correctly, your needs chain and sprockets, has maybe or maybe not blown up one of the ECUs you had fitted to it, a possibly shagged battery, intermittent wiring issues that cause it to refuse to operate correctly even when it fires up, and has an aftermarket body kit in a rather violent colour scheme, which I cannot remember if it got trashed or not. Plus MOT fail for handlebars and a host of other things which need or needed fixing. I'm also sure threre was a conversation about new tyres as well, although having said that there' been so many I've lost track!
Fix the NC. You've sorted out a ton of crap on it, then got distracted by the Chinese rip-off dash. If you get the other stuff done properly, and get the MOT sorted, it'll be worth a shitload more in p/ex than it is now. I don't see why anyone would swap a K5 for your bike plus that sum of money unless they were doing very, VERY well out of the bargain. Remember all your cursing of your NC's previous owner for the things it has/had wrong with it? Persoanlly, I think if this p/ex were to go ahead, you'll be saying exactly the same on a Gixxer forum.

I wouldn't trust them to test load a pair of bathroom scales... lolthunderace wrote:That doesn't mean the battery is good. It needs load testing. Try your nearest Halfrauds, they offer load testing FOC.xivlia wrote:the battery voltage does show 13.40v
