Re: Kierans type one resto with a few fancy bits.
Finally got the engine put back together, still waiting to for some bolts to come back from the platers so i still havent put my freshly painted engine cases on. Checked my valve clearances and i need 11 new shims so if anyone has a bag of spares they could send me it would be massively apreciated as i am a bit tight on funds will pay postage of course.
Heres some photo's:
Valves back in with new stem seals.

Ready to put the heads back on, little bit of oil down the bores to help with the first starting.

First head and gear cam installed, gave the bolts a dunking in oil before torquing them up, was very paranoid about the gearcam teeth meshing properly so i checked 3 times using the workshop manual method.

Both heads installed, crankcase paint looks terrible and its going to bug me like mad but id love to get the engine fully stripped and rebuilt one day so i will get them sorted then.

RVF camshafts installed and timed up bit worried ive got them a tooth out but i have triple checked and it looks bang on.

Front cams installed and then checked the valve clearances, ready for the painted cases and to go back in the frame.

Few more parts arrived and some bits have been finished.

Tank rubbers, bumstop foam, mudguard brackets, M/C bits (expensive but my old one was in shit state)

A few warning stickers for parts that are restored, still need a fair few more but i will get them as and when.

Pair of NSR250 calipers, same fitment as 30 ones only difference is that solid line under the Nissin logo which are the same calipers pictured in the HRC manual.

Finally got hold of a 41mm socket and removed the top yoke, will be getting a coat of satin black as soon as i can get all of the old powdercoat off.

A few of my bolts and bits back from being zinc plated, quite impressed with the finish.

Shock back in with my painted and cleaned linkages.

Few more parts back from the sprayers:

NOS switchgear arrived:

Got hold of a new clock foam so decided to get my this lot reassembled:

Fitted the front end parts with my zinc coated bolts/spindle/etc:

Few stickers put on, alot of money for what they are but add to the finer detail of the bike:

This one looks on the piss but i think its just the camera angle:

So thats all for now, i did put my painted clutch and alternator covers on but ill wait until i get the shims done to get some photo's of the finished engine. Exhaust, subframe and screen brace should be done next week so i may get the bike fired up by the end of the month if everything goes accordingly.

Re: Kierans type one resto with a few fancy bits.
Shes coming together now, been messed around by my painter so im a bit further behind than id have liked, anyway pictures are more interesting than words:

Valve clearances finished, engine back in the frame with the new cases fitted and i also routed the loom and fitted the front exhaust pipes.

First caliper painted up and reassembled.

Second one nearly finished.

Few bits arrived from Rick o, really cant wait to get that seat unit painted!

Some more expensive red stickers from Mr Silver.
Hopefully my bits are ready to be picked up from the painter/zinc coaters on friday and i can get the exhaust fitted, plus the loom and everything all connected. There is a chance of getting the bike fired up in the next 2 weeks or so

Re: Kierans type one resto with a few fancy bits.
Another little update from the past week or so. New oil and filter for the engine, ive swapped to Motul5100 which is apparently much better quality over the silkolene stuff i was using.

Rear JHA downpipes fitted, there isnt much clearance between the lower pipe and the swingarm, im worried they may touch at some point!

Fitted the rest of the system and torqued it all up, where the pipes cross over in this picture there is some touching if i push the back end down really hard however i think this may be down to me missing 3 exhaust springs which are on order now.

Every single part in this picture has been refreshed in one way or another.

Soldered some new connectors and wire for the reg/rec as the old stuff was looking pretty shonky this stuff isnt perfect obviously but is only a temporary fix.

Calipers where sprayed in hammerite smooth gold, looks a bit chavtastic in this photo but the finish is alot duller for real.

And this is how she stands today, less than a month from bare frame to this. I may have a video of her running by the end of next week if everything goes smoothly.
