Your bike should be reliable in all weather conditions and therefore your intention to rectify this issue is the only correct course of action.

Having said that, it could prove to be one of the harder problems to diagnose. NC30 connectors are generally unsealed against moisture, unlike most fitted to newer bikes, so moisture can be a problem.

Try spaying WD40 or a similar water dispersant into the connectors associated with the fault when it occurs. There are not many associated with the starting system and you should include the starter button in your investigation.

A set of voltage readings at the starter relay terminals and starter motor while the starter system is functioning correctly will give you data to compare with when the problem reappears.

bike running problem....

the bike starts fine, runs on idle fine, but when i start to give some proper revs. like 9k rpm or above. the bike starts spiting blue smoke... and then when i let go off the throttle, the bike slowly drops revs and eventually cuts off....... sounds like its getting drowned, but i dont know why the blue smoke is there... my piston rings are fucked?

one more thing, i know for sure when the right pick up screw was stripped it altered the bikes ignition timing.... this could be causing the bike to run a little too rich as well... the other day when i started my bike up for the first time. about 100ml of fuel spat out from the exhaust while trying to get it to start. there is always a strong smell of fuel when its running, and this never happend before untill the pick up screw was fucked. the pickups are tightly screwed, but the right one has more of a gap to the starter clutch than the left one, which is whats altering the ignition timing i think. which two cylinders does the right pick up control does anyone know? so that i can lean out those two carbs.

You want to lean out 2 cylinders to correct what you think is possibly a timing issue! Seriously?

Did you repair the damaged thread properly?

yes its been repaired as best as i can, because to me what it looks like, is its had a broken bolt or screw in there... and its been drilled out...and re threaded, but not very well... so i put a bolt in there. it screws in but its not directly on the hole.... the pick up sits about 2mm higher than it should... thats why there is a bigger gap from the other pick up.

and im thinking that 2mm extra height would affect the timing issue, which in turn will affect the fuel ignition.... which is why it is running a little too rich, thats my theory. because before this problem, it wasnt rich at all.

If its blue its prob burning oil.

Sorry ersan but i think its time you bit the bullet and send it to a mechanic or alternitivly sell/brake the bike.

ill give you 10/10 for effort on this bike mate, but i think you need to get rid and buy another before you start to think all vfr's are the same, i think just about everything thats gone wrong has gone wrong , its almost like an episode of eastenders or corrie , this shit dont happen to real people , you must be really depressed with it , i just think you are seriously unlucky with this machine because the vfr really is a fantastic bike and it saddens me to see you have all this trouble with it ,

yeah, i know theyre not all like this. i need to give it to a mechanic, but its going to cost soo much to fix the problems. i am very depressed with it of course, i wasnt expecting this bike to be this much of a problem, previous owner did onyl say the rear brake needed cleaning..... clearly not, and i do admit i did fuck up a few times with over tightening screws and snapping them.. but, the bike was dying before i bought it. and the owner knew it and sold it...

Maybe you should look at buying a new engine? One you know hasn't got a tonne of gremlins, and while your fitting it, go over the rest of the bike inspecting cleaning and replacing etc.

Or it could even be cheaper to buy a new one, there's loads for sale atm seeing as it's summer....
