Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
Firstly id like to apologise as it seems like i may have come across abit abrupt + its not how i wanted it to be at all so please accept my apologies
With regards to tyre + wheel size, my thoughts behind it are that for the cost of a bros wheel its something i would give a second thought to so that i could use a tyre which are so widely used for a reason
Tyre warmers - as steve has said for the price they are it just makes sense especially while during the winter as you dont realy want any extra expenses during the race season if you then decide you want some
Im always in a pit garage so dont get stuck for long at all in the holding bay + the way bemsee is run theres not realy any sitting around so yes they will cool down slightly but will still have some heat when race starts,
I started racing in 2005 + over the time there been plenty race stoppages + hold ups etc for various reasons + the difference is certainly felt in quite a big way between a cold tyre + a tyre with some heat still in it when we leave the grid
As for heat cycles, well i didnt buy a single tyre all season, all mine were scrubs + one of my used fronts i used for half the season but just make sure the suspension is setup well + with alot of feel, i won the bemsee sub64 championship this season with 59bhp on the used tyres, going full f400 for next season + will be using scrubs again without any concerns
As steve has said track time is king + is the most beneficial investment
Yes an 090 will be ok to start with but in my opinion you will want a better tyre fairly soon as you start pushing
Its just the psycological aspect that if you know your on decent tyres, they are warm etc then its just something less to think about + have more confidence in
moorspeedvicar- there are a fair few 160 tyres available but for a 17" rim, not 18"s
Once again sorry for sounding too negative + abit prick like, more than happy to help you all as much as i can here + trackside

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
warmers do help but its the mental thing they help the most, your mor confident that you have grip at the start so you can push more, It just good to get yourself set up with the right stuff before you go in otherwise you can end up paying the price in repairs.
I know this from experience. Went into my first season this year having never even ridden on a track before, didnt know about pressures, set up or having warmers and i ended up having a big crash costing me a lot and putting me out of the next two rounds. I didnt know where i was going to be in terms of lap times/position but by the time i was in the second half of the season, had decent pressures/warmers advice etc i was running into the top 6 and had a revalation in the confidence i had in the bike.
Thats just my 2 pence, save yourself a lot of frustration and give yourself the best chance by having the bike and the gear set up right before you begin. It will give you so much more confidence and less to worry about.
i picked up a set of brand new (owner bought but never used them) warmers for 90 quid, and before that had a set of good second hand ones for 70, tyres can be bought as part worns too, i buy my supercorsa off a guy on ebay that only does 1 race/session/heat cycle then sells them for less than half price, they turned up looking nearly new.
Deals can be found just take a bit of looking.

Yes mate bemsee all the way :-) I may do the first ng at brands for a bit of a warm up though
I looked at the possibility of doing bemsee + ng but a few meetings clash + im at the manx for one of the ng rounds, theres 4 ng I can do so may try my best to do all 4

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
i was tempted by bemsee but the distance made ng make more sense with castle combe and thruxton being my closest.
HAHA brands hatch a warm up!! may be a warm up for the bike but not you, there was snow this year , it was horrendous, if i wasn't trying to enter every race and go for the championship i'd miss it.
Which NG rounds can you make , would be good to meet up, cup of tea an all that. If you can make Anglesey i highly highly recommend doing it.

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
Haha yeah it was about 4 degrees in the day and -2 at night and pissed down all weekend, wasn't a fan sleeping in a tent at all!
Ah so you'll make thruxton, love the track, i had a great race there, managed to beat the newly crowned 3x f400 champ in the race which i was pretty chuffed with in a pretty bog standard bike.
Umm 86.42 is the f400 lap record, and 1.38.40 round cadwell, how does that compare to bemsee?
I missed cadwell, oulton, mallory and pembrey this season.

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
Was shannon the ng champ last year? I heard rumour that shes coming over to bemsee for next season, 86.42?
Also thats the cadwell record but what about regulare race times rather than one off records?
Oulton is a very interesting circuit, takes some focusing + learning to do a quick lap, lots of blink apex's + blind exits etc, very undulating
