Re: Smevs Bikes - Past and Present!
I always use my Grandads plotter and cutter for vinyl. It all get programmed into the computer then spits it out the end.
All I can suggest is either a very sharp scalpel or sharp scissors. Obviously start too big and cut down to size. Even use paper first and make a template.
When applying the vinyl, if you use a small amount of soapy water (washing up liquid + water) on the panel where the vinyl is going, it allows you to to fit it then lift it off and re-adjust if you need to. The soapy water then gets pushed out when you use a spreader/squeegee thingat the end!!
Its mostly common sense really - I'm sure you knew all that already!

Re: Smevs Bikes - Past and Present!
Right, I meant to take some pics but took a vid or two instead!!
After charging the battery for a good few hours I went out to the garage, fitted it and the bike fired up
It started almost instantly - which isn't bad considering its been sat in my garage in bits since early November
I have noticed when giving it a few revs though a bit of blacky/brown smoke and some flames. I'm hoping its something which will pass when I've ridden it for a bit. Or it maybe that its just the vfr carbs that need rejetting to suit? If thats the case then the RVF carbs will hopefully cure the problem.
Anyways, here are a few vids of it, in a logical-ish order!!
First one shows the bike and system. http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh17 ... 011042.mp4
Second one shows starting and ticking over a bit. http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh17 ... 011043.mp4
Third shows more revs and some smoke and flames
http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh17 ... 011044.mp4
In some of the vids you can see my Translogic Micro-Dash, which I have yet to get the tacho part to work, but the speedo works and the temp gauge, as well as all the lights and lap-timer! I've been fiddling with it - thats why all the front end looks such a mess. I'll tidy it up once it works.
I can't wait to sort it out properly. People say its just a case of wiring it into the coils - I'm a bit useless with electonics (I can connect two wires with a bit of solder and heat shrink, but thats my limit
) so I'm unsure of how to go about this - any volunteers to come and give it a go?!!!!!!
I don't really want to go to any workshops as I feel I'll just get muggged over the cost of it. That and the fact that it is pretty unique, and I don't know who or where would be competant to do it.
Thats it so far though

I almost forgot to say I love the sound of it!!!
Its loud but not stupidly loud, probably the same/similar to my old Yamamoto, but less raspy. But I think baffles may be needed for track days and MOT time.
Which is actually due, so may just pop lights on, tidy wiring, and get the fairing on and put it in to see how it gets on

Looks and sounds great. how are you wiring the dash to the coils? my scitsu just had the wire wraped around the coil lead held in place with sprial wrap. My KOSO comes straight off the cdi, ive heard those translogics need doing on the dyno????

Re: Smevs Bikes - Past and Present!
Craig S who I got the dash from said it was wired from the coils, just the rear one as the front gave too much interferance and he couldn't get a good reading.
I have heard they need setting up on a dyno too - the booklet that comes with it has a set-up guide but involves riding at set speeds and rpm etc, which I guess you can only do on a dyno.

Yeah my scitsu was only wired to one coil but the front one. You could maybe set it up on the road with some kind of GPS device to confirm your speed

Lovely sound mate! I mot'd mine with db killers in and had no problems, let me know if you need to borrow them.

Re: Smevs Bikes - Past and Present!
Kris, out of interest, what do your db killers look like? Do they require a hole drilling in the end cap?
I may end up going to Dynotech in Basingstoke for them to sort the dash - they said they could do it when they came to a trackday on camp. plus there is the bonus they have a dyno to do all the set-properly with the rvf carbs. I'd love to know what power it makes and what the graph looks like.

Never had any problems getting my rvf through the mot with the mercury although my yzf got through somehow at the sameplace and i know for sure that alot of it does not conform with MOT regs. I know the owner so it may just be me. My pipes register 103db but are not overly offensive.

Re: Smevs Bikes - Past and Present!
Cool - good to know the cans aren't overly loud when being run properly, I've only managed to hear them briefly while at a standstill.
Well, I have a couple of weeks off work so I plan on making a bit of a start on the spare fairing I have.
There are a few minor cracks and lugs broken off, so I want to sort those out first then get it all rubbed down to prep for a base coat. That should be enough for now!
I have also managed to sort the RVF carbs out, so they can go on when I get a chance too
I'll take some pics of the spare fairings in the next few days and report how they clean up
