So you've got er9's in the back and er10's in the front yes?? why? change the front plugs

Fuel tap, as already has been said if your tap is standard (meaning NOT HRC modified) then it should be fine to leave the tap on although its good practice to switch it off as these do wear out.

Course of action is simple,

check your charging system, replace parts if needed
check carb settings
new plugs if youve killed them

if you cant do the above, find someone who can. These really are basic issues with these bikes and for what you've already paid your dyno man if he cant put it right present him with a bill from someone who can.

There could be a lot of things wrong with your bike or something very stupid all causing the same kinds of problems.

As everybody keeps saying you need to be methodical, spend a weekend and go through everything that has been listed and check, reset and verify its all ok.

then you can stop asking 'is it this, is it that' and you also might learn somethign in the process.

There will be no magic answer of somebody saying to you, 'tighten this and spray that and it'll run like a dream'.

It could be something as daft as a split vaccumn pipe, or it could be somethign serious or a combination of things.

guessing is not the best way to solve your problem

Hi Adam,

It does sound like there are a few things up with the bike but with a bit of time and patience they should be fixable. Doing the regulator/rectifier checks is a good idea before you ride the bike much more. If it has failed (and they do a lot) then you are likely to end up with a knackered battery that needs replacing.

If you can take up the offer of having CMSMJ1 have a look at your bike then you are likely to learn an awful lot about it in a short amount of time. You do need to take heed of the advice you are being given though because it does sound like you are going over the same problems over and over again.

The things that it sounds like you need to do short term are reg/rec and change the front plugs. Once these are done you can start concentrating on the carb etc.

Dont overwhelm yourself by bringing up more and more problems, i was in the same position and took it step by step:

-sort charging system
-change plugs all round
- start properly (choke, no throttle)

then look back and see what differences everything has made, then instead of bringing up more questions and issues you can just start checking off things you've done and eventually the problem will be obvious.

PS- 50p it is the regulator :plus:

It doesn't. Please forget about the backfiring for now as it really is the least of your worries. It's more than likely a small airleak on one of the joints of your Tyga system but please please please forget about that for the moment. Once you get the fuelling and charging sorted then, and only then, can we work out what else, if anything, is going on.

Have you got in touch with the Dyno people yet? I know Mark was going to but have you actually done anything regarding this yet? All you need to do is find out what the guy did, you don't need to be able to understand it, just find out what he's done. I think what Mark has proposed to do is great and very admirable but I think the chances are that he's more than likely not gonna hear anything (I hope I'm wrong) as the Dyno guy owes him nothing. He does however owe you something. Just go down there with your dad and get the guy to write down what he's done and print the graph, it really isn't that hard and shouldn't take the best part of a week to do.
