Pipe looks real nice, such a shame the old owner hacked it up.
Its a shame you aint in on the west coast or SPD exhausts could have sorted it for you, they make some beautiful pipes and ive had stuff off them in the past. Are the down pipes 1 3/8" dia from the exhaust port? how do they match up with the gasket?

Yes, they have an i.d. of 36mm (1.4in) from the exhaust port. The insert you see has two inner diameters. It is smaller inside to match the exhaust port and then opens up to the larger diameter you see in the picture.

Here is how they connect. It is a nice little system. The silver insert slides in and the bolts hold it place. The pipe then slides over the insert. Great for easy servicing or racing obviously. Once you take the spring off the header comes right off.

Now this is the part I need because the pipes do touch the one radiator hose. It is the kit water inlet. From what I gather from the picture it is heading in the opposite direction of the stock part: pointing towards the outside of the engine instead of inside.

With that in mind, I mocked mine up to see if it works. From first impressions it does. I would just have to have a different mounting tab on the inlet.

I don't know if this is how they drew it up in the kit manual but it just might work.

I would run the hose in the standard position but cut out the section that touches the exhaust and replace it with a piece of ally pipe, thats what most the race teams do.

So simple but I would have never thought of it. I think I will give it a try.

Ye, if you use some 1.5mm wall pipe the fact that its so much thinner than the rubber will give a nice clearence. :peace:

Problem solved thanks to Variable! I had replaced the metal water tube on the engine so I used the old one to cut up.

Glad you enjoyed the post. It has been a few weeks since I worked on anything. I ran out of my fun money and needed to take a break for a little bit. I've actually started stripping the tank to fix the dents in it to give myself something to do. I'll have some time this weekend so I should have some more pictures soon. What sort of engine rebuild pictures are you after?

I forgot to add that it was my #3 cylinder that was leaking as well. That pressure test led to the whole engine rebuild.
