I painted mine gloss black using pj1 engine paint and its still good now a few years down the line.
Why would they have taken the fan off?

I've never raced bikes so can't say for certain but I think removing the fan is common for race bikes?? I guess the bike doesn't stop moving in a race and most guys run a total loss system so remove anything unnecessary that drains electrical power???

Can anyone tell me where this should go?? I'm assuming it's an Earth wire and should bolt to the frame perhaps???

Sanded and painted the rear hugger tonight. It WAS baby blue and lumpy as porridge.....



You can't tell in this photo but I sanded and resprayed the radiator gloss black as well. I flushed it out first and spent half an hour straightening bent radiator fins with a small screwdriver and some tweezers.

think of straightening the fins as therapeutic. It has that calming effect

Righto, haven't updated this thread for a while so here goes....

Spent what seemed an eternity cleaning up my wiring loom, cleaning connectors, taping the loom up etc etc.....

I was dreaming of the day that I pour petrol into the tank and fire it up.....

The bike didn't have a radiator fan when I purchased it but I thought that was probably removed for racing reasons and it didn't trouble me much.....

I purchased a 2nd hand radiator fan and spent an hr tidying it up, wire brushing it and painting it satin black.

I was bolting the fan to the radiator when I glanced at the loom at the radiator fan connector....and a wave of panic came over me.....

The connector from the loom was wrong....it was a 2 pin connector and the fan was a 3 pin connection!!! ee gads.

I checked the other wiring looms I had in my shed and sure enough, discovered that the loom I had spent hours straightening out and cleaning up was in fact from an NC23 model, hence the different connector for the fan. Damn.

I somehow managed to remove the wiring loom in about 2 minutes flat and all through the red mist that I was seeing as well.....

So I've grabbed the better of the 2 spare NC29 looms I had and started to re-tape that loom and clean it up. The problem is that the loom has had an overheat at some point in it's life (Probably reg/rec failure at a guess?) and some of the wires have hardened and are brittle, fuses are melted etc etc.

This is where I am at with this bike......I'm absolutely seething and have lost interest. I've wrapped a tarpaulin over the bike and pushed it into the 'naughty corner' in the garage. I'll reassess next year and see if I gain some interest again.

Can you not buy a second hand loom in good condition over there?
Could you lay out the loom and make new wires for the ones that are knackered, if you already have a few looms to go at could you use the connectors off those to make a good loom. Just a thought.

It's more the fact the connectors are toasted. The fuses and relays etc. They all seem to be pretty brittle or oxidised on 2nd hand looms so I dont think another 2nd hand loom will help the cause. It might be a case of trying to source those connections but that's in the 'too hard basket' right now.
