You sure? I checked the chain alignment and it was straighter than a roman road.

Although something else must be wrong too if the chain is straight yet the sprocket the wrong way round, or does it not matter?

Its only a couple of mm so can look 'straight'.
Did you check the alignment with a laser or by eye?

By eye.

I'll change it when I get time and it's not bloody freezing, the bike won't be on the road until this shitty weather goes anyway.

I'll take the laptop with me too to use the service manual to double check stuff.

I've also been guilty of this common faux pas (caught it before going on the road).
Now you know you will see it everywhere!

Update time!

Thanks to Timon I was alerted to a mistake that I made previously with putting the rear sprocket back on the wrong way round so I sorted that.



Then I fitted my new RVF carb rubbers, makes getting the carbs back on a piece of piss!





Then the other day I balanced my carbs.

Off with all the gubbins and vacuum hoses connected up, then back on with all the gubbins.

Unfortunately the idle is still erratic, so I set about sorting the float heights today. Made myself a little tool. Luckily they were only a couple of mm out each. Video of erratic idle: http://s1126.photobucket.com/albums/l60 ... G_0519.mp4





I guess I might need a new gym membership card if I ever decide to go back to the money grabbing place.....

Got the carbs back on the bike and the idle is still erratic, seems I still have an air-leak somewhere, don't have time to find out where now though, will have to wait until my day off.

Did you put all of the float bowls back on thier original carb? As far as i know they can cause an air leak if mixed up.

I worked on one carb at a time, never mixed the bowls up, plus I used new seals. Shouldn't be that I don't think....
