Re: I predict Yamaha Shares will rise soon.........
Well joy of joys it runs again! Swapped the carbs for the ones from the 'race' bike and it fired up once i had cranked it about 10 times and the bowls had some fuel in them. Tried to get the new scorpion end can on but the inlet is about 1.25mm bigger than the link pipe. I will take the can and link pipe to an exhaust manufacturer next weekend and get the link pipe swaged up a bit to make a snug fit. Even the electrics behaved themselves!!!
Fitted the new peanut starter cover and bearing and refitted the fairing lowers. Just got to fit both the front indicators, fairing infil panels, cycle speedo and make a headlight loom for the H4 light and she's good to go for the MOT.
I will get the std set of carbs back over to you soon Evil. I am just waiting for a part to arrive, the white plastic bit that holds the choke cable disintegrated in my hands so I've ordered another for you.
Edit: Oh and I won a new whole #4 carb from a 3HE genesis on ebay for £20 - still a BDST32

Cool so it runs and youre close to finishing it (for a while)
I've nearly shaken my cold. I degreased the "bike" I got from you today and made a space in the garage for it. Started making moulds to repair the 2 mid back panels might finish them tomorrow.

Re: I predict Yamaha Shares will rise soon.........
Got more done today. All indicators on and working. Headlight loom fabbed and fitted. Cycle speedo zip tied to top yoke - just got to figure out how to fit the wireless sender to the forks now.

The horn didn't want to know so I may have to get another if this one wont kick in. Until I sort that and the speedo sender I wont fit the v-panel.

One thing I did notice is that the R6 shock is *real* hard, even for a bloke of my....stature
I was wondering if i had fitted the shock linkage the wrong way round? Is there a way to tell. there is a marking that says PB and is visigle from the right of the bike.

Hopefully it will at least go in for an MOT in a couple of weeks

Re: I predict Yamaha Shares will rise soon.........
lookin good there
difficult to tell with the extension piece as mine is a big steel thing with original dog bones and not the sexy kayla alloy beauty your sp is sporting
what colour spring you got on the r6 shock, if it's the standard red fella then that's why it's a bit hard, alot of peeps put the black spring on (me included) the standard tj spring is about 320lbs rating the standard r6 red shock is about 500lbs rating and the black replacement is 400 lbs rating and just about right,(figures nearly correct at time of going to press
) even for a lump like me i only need the preload set about 1/2 way
EDIT wasn't looking with both eyes
pic 2 shows the red spring, as you've noticed there a bit hard

Ok. If the red spring is too hard (oh yes!) but I cant fit the original 3TJ black spring (too long to go in?) then which black spring should I get? I take it someone like Maxton or Hyperpro would be able to supply me a spring of the correct poundage?? I will have to give them a ring Monday. I have the R6 manual in PDF now so I'll have a play tommorow and make sure it's nothing stupidly obvious
C spanner - ready!!!

Re: I predict Yamaha Shares will rise soon.........
the tj spring is too long, and also to small a diameter
the black spring referred too, is a lighter weight spring for the R6, which suits the tj perfectly,
but you'll need to quote the R6 shock and then explain it's for a 400 or you'll be told that's far to soft for a 600 bla bla
racetech, maxton or a number of other suspension guru's will be able to give you an idea of what you need

Re: I predict Yamaha Shares will rise soon.........
Well after looking at Hyperpro all they seemed to sell is a progressive rear spring.. ..not for me thanks. Spoke to a chap at Maxton and today arrived something that should work alot better - now to find a spring compressor!
A new rear light panel arrived intact from a Yamaha main dealer in Greece aswell
Date code on the part is Dec '89

And Evil the white plastic choke lever for the carbs has arrived.

Re: I predict Yamaha Shares will rise soon.........
Well today I took the bike for a nice long 'shakedown' ride on the way to the MOT.......which it passed with one advisory

The shakedown and MOT did show that there is a bit to do but not thing too serious. I had set the rear brake lever far too low..sorted. I had set the gear lever far to high! Tried to sort it but over compensated and needs to be moved up one notch. The clutch lever needed moving down a little. The clutch is sooooo heavy! It has a new cable but also has Uprated EBC springs from the 3HE 600 - I think some Gen yam ones should sort this.
The front brake lever ideally needs moving down a bit aswell. Problem is with the 09 R1 radial master is that the hoses join it from underneath and because there are two going into a double banjo it sticks out quite a way
I may have to go down to one and a splitter so it can rotate on the bar more. I wondered why the genuine hose bolt was like a countersunk allen jobbie...
Still got to change the rear spring
The advisory was for play in the suspension linkage bearings. Not loads but enough to just notice.
Also after the MOT the bike cut out
I have now identified this as fuel starvation down to the tank not venting properly. Now I did fit an R1 fuel cap so that the ignition & fuel cap had the same key. Something to investigate when the fuel level is much lower!
Anyway. Taxed. Tested. Happy

The radial Masters can be tricky I think there's only a couple of degrees to play with

You can get a converter though, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Rad ... 3ccc126f71 it should give you a bit more room.
