Yeah I'm going back to it today had to nip into work yesterday, I'll have the carbs of again and have a real good go at the three pilots again, I tightened the adjuster screws to effectively close the butterflies fully! I'll set it so that the idle adjustment touches the drum.

The fuel came out after I had refit the carbs after making adjustments to the screws to close the butterflies. I'm not using the tank tho I have attached a long piece of fuel hose to the T and I'm using a funnel and petrol can, the fuel tap has the Hrc mod so it's the same as the funnel and fuel hose set up, ie gravity fed.

Anyway I filled the funnel up and filled the floats with fuel and the. All of a sudden the vents started pouring fuel out.

Should the butterflies be open a little bit? I though the three pilot circuit holes ran round and bypassed the butterflies so they should be shut and allow the pilot circuit only to be in operation when the bikes ticking over am I wrong thinking this?

Thinking its sorted this time, took the carbs off again and set the butterfly that is adjusted from the idle adjuster so that half of the first pilot hole was visible, then set all the others to be the same by eye, also blasted carb cleaner and compressed air through the pilot again, this done I refit the carbs added fuel which. And straight out again as I had forgotten to tighten up the drain bolts!!!! Numpty. Tightened them up added fuel again and she started and once off choke idled at 2k turned the idle adjustment back a little 1.5k idle and pretty steady maybe moves around 200rpm so I'm happy with that. Got a vid of it running so will post that and you can let me know what you think.

Fuel leaking after a re-fit might have been a sticking float.. sometimes when they first fill up with fuel they don't rise as they are stuck in an odd position.. tapping the float bowl with a screwdriver handle remedies this is most cases if it was the problem.. had it a few times when working with carbs.

A, im trying to do this on the cheap
B, I enjoy fabricating stuff, even if im not that brilliant at it, never wull be if idont keep trying will i!!
C, Gives me something to do.






Anyway mocked it up outta timber, which was pretty easy thanks to me dad being a joiner and having a joinery shop, right tools for the job makes things a hell of a lot easier, chopped up another rear subframe i have and now going to replicate it in metal. hoping once ive got it done and im happy with it ican give it to my dads mate whose a fabricator by trade and he can copy it outta alloy.

Other than that im getting close to being all done,i think/hope.

Cheers Neosophist, guessing that a floats gotten stuck when i had the carbs upside down, its been fine since its run so thats one less issue to sort.

bit concerned about the chain and micron pipe tho, things look real close and im thinking the chain will rub on the exhaust where they cross just behind the lefthand (gear change) side rearset??!?!

Ok, got a sorta fixed deadline for this now, gonna try and get onto the Oulton trackday on the 18th Feb, as the GF is starting to give me stick about never actually finishing the bike, she may have a point!!

I haven't actually booked the TD yet going to do that next week as i need to make a list of jobs that need to be done and then see if the 18th is actually achievable. As i work away from home this will have to be done at weekend.
So with this in mind i bought a new chain from ABRmoto that was on ebay and a race subframe from Pauliealdridge69 (I think) again from ebay, still gonna make mine but in the interest of speed i'll bolt this on for now.

Working front to back i have,
Replaced front wheel bearings
Checked headstock bearings (All good)
Split forks replaced seals refreshed and put back in.
Split front calipers replaced all seals and fluid and bleed up, got a good solid lever.
removed carbs ultrasonic cleaned, replaced inlet rubbers for new ones and replaced all carb screws.
Got bike running right and idling correctly..............ish
Bought an rvf400 17" rear
Fit Micron Exhaust that i think will be too loud (suggestions welcome how to fix this to meet 102db)

Stuff i still need to do:
will be fitting a new rear caliper as the original is buggered. sorted one from Frenchie on here, ta dude.
Got an Aprilia RS250 rear shock, and wilber spring, needs servicing yet but will be posted on saturday.
Fit new chain, the one one the bike is salvagable but time dictates a little here
Get tires fitted, got some 160/60/17 - 120/60/17 power ones. (anybody got some pressures for these??)
Need to fit rvf bottom triangle and drill the vfr link 8mm.
drop oil and put fresh in.

anybody see anything glaringly obvious that i have missed??

This is with the bike on the rear stand, so effectively with the weight of the bike on the suspension, and no matter how much i fiddle and adjust i cant get much more clearance.

Granted when i sit on the bike i get more clearance but im a bit worried about chain whip, as i'd imagine that the chain will go through the pipe in seconds!


this is how the bike stands at the minute, not my number though, these are the fairings and numbers the bike came with.

Need to sort the front screen brace and clock bracket to take the NC35 fairing then im thinking i might have a cheeky run down the back lane. ridden it the length of the workshop, so my maiden voyage was all of 10m!! exciting stuff!

Played around with his at the weekend, with mixed results.

Started by trying to sort out the fuel line dry break, which i wont repeat as its in another post on here. but it went well and im happy with the result and the routing.



With this done it means i dont need to remove the tank everytime i need to undo the dry break. Been thinking about this yesterday and think i will wrap the now longer fuel line in some exhaust packing as a heat shield, as while the fuel line doesn't go anywhere different to where the original fuel line went it may sit and rest on the rocker cover so thinking belt and braces is the best policy.

Also had a look and making some brakeline brackets for the rear brake. I do a fair bit of mountain biking and used a fix for the cable that we use to fix brake cables to the down tubes of the bikes.

Basically you just use a washer with a zip tie threaded through it then round the the cable and back out the washer again. This stops the cable being able to pull through the zip tyre and also spaces it away from the bracket and stops it chaffing against it.




Looking at it my bracket is ever so slightly on the chunky side so think i will cut it in half length ways and use this half for the front bracket. Quick Q tho, will this pass tech inspection?

Also got my tyres fitted, another quick Q again is this spacing between tyre and chain ok?

currently running 525 set up and wanting to swap to 520 but was going to wait till id knackered the 525 stuff that came with the bike as it all new!

Haha one more quick Q, front brake lines, ive noticed some braided lines have a 90degree banjo fitting, mine dont?? is this ok, ie again will it pass tech inspection?





Finally pulled the exhaust in bits and added a layer of packing around the existing and used this baffle in the end to try and quieten it down a bit,

And the result, well its still way to loud at 105dba, though thats indoors which wont be helping i dont think and i also think its blowing where all the pipes meet in the 4-1 section so i'll get some exhaust paste and try it again.

Hoping to have my shock back this week so can get that fit and along with the rear nc35 triangle mount, still need to drill my dogbone and redrill at 8mm centre to centre.

Apart from that im starting to think(hope) all the major bits are done, as the 18th is fast approaching and im gonna lose this sunday as i am on my CTC course with Wirral 100 at warrington.

Then again looking at Februarys weather forecast i might be as well fetching my sledge to Oulton rather than my bike!!!
