Starter relay is not related at all mechanically.

What shims you on about?

Starter motors are simple - they work or they don't.

I reckon something else.

I think he means the shims on the spindle onto which you bolt the cable that runs to the battery.

I also have only 3 and it seems not to do any harm.

the shims inside the starter motor when you disassemble them. on haynes manual it shows 4 for rear but ive only got 3. i dont know what else could be the problem..... the bike doesnt jam when i try to jump start the bike with my dads car.. but the bike wont fire up... its like the starter motor isnt working properly

does the starter turn or not? if it does, and is meshed onto the gear in the casing then you can eliminate that.

Could there be some internally wrong with the starter clutch? never took that apart to inspect it.

okay im having a wild guess and it has got to be the needle bearing inside the starter clutch...... if thats broken, the thing cant turn right? so hence the jamming.... the starter motor turns freely when jumping from my dads car due to more power. but when i use my fully charged battery.. it jams and clonks like a bitch.... if the starter motor is fine. the only possible answer has got to be the starter clutches bearings or the cog teeths.

I admire this kid.

He's what, 19? He could be out smashing up the town, getting pissed like a lot of kids do but he's got himself a bike, and is clearly a beginner but he's not scared to get stuck in, have a go, persevere and get it sorted. Myself, when I was 19 I would have lost my temper, smashed the bike to bits, torched it and got hammered at another rave.

I bet in 20 years time he'll be a better mechanic than most of us cause he is learning all the time. His age tells you is isn't always going to listen to advice but one day it'll all sink in and the best bit, he'll be giving advice out to the next kid that comes along that is a beginner.

The only trouble with forums is when you ask a question you get 5 totally different replies. Sometimes its better to just strip it down and work it out yourself.

Keep at it lad. Just please don't cut corners with your safety no matter what the price maybe!

8-)

Have you checked your reg/rec?
Sounds like the battery is fooked. If the battery is fooked and its relatively new id say it may be getting fried if your reg/rec is faulty.
