I'd be inclined to pick up a secondhand quiet can just to make sure you pass the noise tests. You could then swop over to the fruity can afterwards as they only noise test once.

Saying that there were some brutally loud bikes there last year. I recall a BMW R100RS and a Honda MT125R (amongst others) which were out on track but sounded way over the db limit.

Well I've only got to:
- install exhaust studs
- fit exhaust
- Fit carbs
- fit radiators
- get can back from MHP
- mount exhaust can ( needs bracket fabricating)
- fit loom
- fill with fluids
- pray it starts
- test
- test generator
- change tyres
And I'll be done!

Thanks for the replys, folks. I was hoping I'd have my 3XV rebuilt for Cadwell ... but I don't .. so my baby Gixer is going instead as I'm happy with how it's running now. (Need to update my "Winter service/tidy-up" thread in the workshop section ). It's a bit late in the day to buy a quieter end can (which would probably screw up the top-end jetting anyway) so I'll just have to cross me fingers!

What rev's do they test the 400 4 strokes at, 8,000 ?? (My 3XV TZR is tested at 8,000 rpm).
And which noise test app. is deemed the most accurate?

Reckon you'll prob be ok, the maj of 4 strokes are not as loud as the 2 strokes!

the CRM is sounding a little "rumbly" and i suspect is past it's best and in need of a rebuild.
i took it out today and it sure goes ok still but does sound a little rumbly from the bottom end.

i will be investigating the main bearings this week, however it does coincide with a recent gear oil change from cheap shit 10w 40 to expensive motul gear oil - it seems not to like the good stuff.

Yeah i am thinking balance shaft bearings like cheap oil - which is what will go in it again this weekend

The N1 i took to valley last weekend to "run in" well it got 3 sighting laps then ragged.
handling is pure comedy, brakes are poodle. if i did bring the N1 i would ride it accordingly and at a pace fitting with a mint original N1 - so unless lapping me i doubt you would see it much on track.
at least the CRM took some passing in the corners.

To be fair i took the RVF yesterday to Anglesey too, and it rocked.
had 2 moments where my lazy riding style and feet sticking out touched down causing a panic moment, but it went well. however i just don't see the appeal the CRM was much more fun, far less tiring and still the bike of choice for me.
