Chapeau!

I'm so out of the game these days that it makes me unhappy! I'm going to get my Yam sold on and spend some time and money on the No9.

The idea of some lovely forks would be great, but perhaps only for the bling - unless someone is going to comfirm how much more superior these cartridge forks are than fettled NC30 cartridge forks?

Is it the physical properties - stiffness, weight (assuming it is more to be fair overall, but with less unsprung if you use a trumpet wheel etc?) and also 25 year newer tech?

Good work guys, you rule.

For me Mark its a three fold improvement -

1. They are the latest tech and are fresh forks with no slop and play in them or strain and stress that 20 odd years of use is going to place on them. So all the adjustment etc will work and not be worn etc and so they should be crisp clean and sharp, and like previuosly said, they are fully supported by the likes of Ktech ohlins etc etc.

2. Radial calipers are going to be better, the NC30 brakes are good no doubt but will always be bettered by radial calipers and as the strongest point of the NC is its handling, its best to exploit that fully, so if there is the opportunity to further exploit that then great. When asked by people the best/first upgrade to do the answer is always suspension and brakes, we all used to put RO kits in and CBR caliper brackets and calipers, and on the road this is all you ever need but if you can go one step further and do the 675 upgrade then for the track why not. I am never going to outdrag the 75odd bhp zxr's so i need to outbrake them and carry more corner speed.

3. Personal one this, but my bike is a 1989 nc30, and has correct period 1989 damper rod forks, they are modified internally with the damper rod holes welded up and re drilled. My options were cartridge emulators or source some late type forks then sort a RO kit for them - which would cost a bit prob £300. i was going to do that last winter but decided to wait save a bit of cash and then do the 675 upgrade, as i have said in my thread its not a cheap option, but its also, for me, the most cost effective option given the potential gains, again if i only rode on the road i'd not be looking at the 675 upgrade as to me it simply is not necessary.

at no point would i consider this for a road bike, in my eye the performance increase for road riding isnt worth the cost, i also prefer the standard RWU fork look on a NC30 over the USD look which, again to me, looks wrong on a 30.

However as i am a track only rider i want to upgrade as much as i can and i feel the additional performance gained by this in an on track scenario makes sense.

The downsides I can see are

A. Cost, it is a lot, i can justify it for the track, for the road the additioanl cost over and above RO upgrade is not worth it, Again my opinion, also the cost of tuning rockets Ktech cartridge kits are horribly expensive. do you need them - probably not - do you want them, dont ask silly questions!!

B. Looks, i prefer the RWU forks on a 30

C. Crash repairs, you now have a fairly bespoke front end so if you bend it at a race you may not manage to get the spares you need to get out again as bits may not be as available. Saying that 50mm clip ons are more common in the pits than the 41mm for a nc30. That aside the cost of repairs also sky rockets as you are using modrn kit so cant just pick it up off eBay for a couple quid like you can with NC30 bits.

Sorry this turned into a bit of a major ramble.

Quick update on this topic -

I now have the first set of CNC billet yokes to hand which fit Triumph 675 Daytona or Street Triple forks to the NC30 frame - I`ll post some pics when I get them back from being anodised and take orders if anyone else wants a set...
