There is another option or two - use g force uni contacts to design and analyse a wheel design and have them made. If mag then casting options are easy as there is only 1 mag foundry left in the uk then just machining left to sort out. If ali then there are a few chinese oem suppliers who would be able to tool up quite reasonably and bring price down. I guess this is just a dream but an investment by someone could secure a long term future for supply for these great bikes
Which of my "Uni contacts is willing to take this on?

I personally prefer the 5 spoke but would be interested in either. If there was a choice, even basic, in colour then fab but not a deal breaker if not. I think as everyone else has said it all depends on price really and any discount we could get. I would be after a front and rear.

Cheers,
Paul.

I'd be interested but its all down to the coin really, I'd cant say a definate yes/no until then.

As much as i want one I'm very much on the fence until a rough estimate of spondoolars is available!

Hi Everyone:

This seems to have stalled a bit. I would like to see where it is headed.

From my conversations with Paul and Rick Oliver, we can get 3-spoke wheels. We can mix and match colors. We can get them in 17 x 5.5" size only. I am waiting for clarification of price but I believe we are looking at under 1900 GBP with VAT for a set.

I have a brand new 5.25" 3-spoke Dymag and it weighs about 3.9 Kilos. Does anyone know the weight of the stock rim? All of ours have tires on them right now.

It's lighter than a stock Ducati Aluminum Marchesini that I weighed at 5.8kg. So, here's some weights I have been collecting:

Stock Ducati: 5.8kg
Stock Honda: 5.3kg
Dymag 3-Spk: 3.9kg (sorry if I wrote something different)
PVM (unknown)3.5kg
HRC NSR Mg: 3.4kg
OZ Forged Mg:3.0kg

The OZ are the lightest. The PVMs might possibly be the cheapest. The Dymags are my personal favorites.

Since I don't see a whole lot of people jumping in, I am getting the feeling the seriousness of the people in this thread is dying out. How many people are seriously considering wheels?

I'm probably a no to be honest purely down to cost, no matter how much i want them i can't justify 1900, i'm not saying thats too much for them im just saying its too much for me.

The hawk pvm group buy took years to put together and managed 7 all together. I dont want to be a party pooper but I will be amazed if you get that many - those who want dymags badly enough already have them and the cost is just too dear for most.

These buys seem to hang on one person placing the order and generally a few others sign up. "Build it and they will come"

I personally think there is a business case for a 5 or 5.25 ali wheel die cast to something along the lines of the original but maybe 5 or 6 spokes, small weight saving and £300 -£400 selling price, suitable for vfr, nsr and hawk/bros. The delkevic rim showed it is realistic, just it was too close to rvf which could be picked up cheaper at the time.

While doing a stint drafting for a motorcycle manufacturer I was surprised to find the tooling was not that expensive - maybe they were a loss leader to get the work based on oem volumes?

I hope you get this done Mike, vfr's deserve good wheels
