Thanks for the help, ended up checking and cleaning all electrical connections. The coils were a problem and I re-soldered the ignition (as in where the key goes). She got consistent spark and fired up, after seeing a leak ad realizing it was only running on 3 cylinders I took the carbs off and fitted them back which worked like a charm. Roared in to life sounding better than ever...

Problem is I still have inconsistent idle as well as many other issues but I'l take them a couple at a time so:

1. The exhaust spewed out burnt carbon deposits, I assume this is from the exhaust and not the engine, what do you think?

2. I tuned all carbs to 2 and a half turns out as in Haynes, how do I know what further tuning is required?

Uneven idle.

Possible symptoms in most likely order

'Bad Carb Balance' - Use a vaccum gauge
'Bad carb rubbers' - Air leaking.
'Bad Pilot circuit' - Use carb cleaner and high pressure airline to clean out pilot jets AND the 3 hole circuit that runs to the butterflys.
Bad Float Height - Check and reset.. 6.8mm on NC30.

Thanks, I reckon carb balancing is in order but how to do it is another story, may actually go to a mechanic for this one.
