Balanced the carbs using a feeler gauge and seemed pretty good it idles steady between 1200-1300.

I screwed the a/f screws in pretty tight didn't want to go any more in far of snapping them.

As for the pilots believe they were 35s or 38's remember them matching up with the guide on here.

I don't tend to turn the fuel tap off an park on a slight slope could that be the issue?

Are you using your pilot circet with your air screws then? Or by-passing them? Cos if you screw them too tight they might damage the ends, makeing any air screw adjustiment after that not accurate mate.

The heads on ricks jets are 1mm taller, although it ran well when they were first fitted so not sure it's the jets.

I still think there is somethign up with your carbs.

What codes are on the needles.

Maybe your drilling out the slides has caused something bad to happen.

Is there any wear on the needle jet holders.

Is your choke mechanisim properly shut off, check all 4 rods.. with the diaphrams out you can see the choke rods.. make sure they are fuly seating.

You only screw the pilot screws into hand tight, any more and you break / distort the fine tipped end.

Once they are seated back them out 2 full turns, put a dot on the handle of a screw-driver to help 'see' one rotation.

Apart from your airfilter not working (I believe you said it's ok)

I can't see why it's over-fuelling so much unless you have a fault somewhere.

Either choke, bad float heights or wrong / worn needles and jet holders.

Have you checked the float heights? If so how did you do it and what did you set them too?

Did the a/f screws up hand tight and then wound them out 2.5 turns. When I fitted the new jets I took them all right out to check the tips of them and they were all straight and seemed alright.

The needles I can't remember the codes on them off the top of my head but matched up with the guide on here.

I drilled the 2.5mm holes and cleared the holes of any swarf.

I checked the float heights by cutting an L shaped but of card using digital calipers and measures from the face that the gasket seals on to the top of the float. Reckon they were all spot on as took plenty of time double checking each one.

I checked the choke opporating and make sure that there was a little slack in the cable when off.

Not sure about the jet holders being worn, could be.

The air filter is brand new off rick.

Starting to wish you could buy brand new units ready to fit.

You do know the Honda retail price for a set of carbs is 1804.67 + vat.

It's a strange one though, really difficult without seeing it.

Is anyone local with a set of carbs you can try?

Don't know of anyone local, might have a look about for an other set, that I can set up and swap straight over or wonder if I just get new needles and bits off rick.

If you take the slides out and look straight down at the needle jet holder where the needles go in they should be a round shape, not ovaled out.

Mind you, wear here is rare on 32mm carbs.

What did you set the float heights too? 6.8mm? measured with the carbs at a 30 degree angle?

You dont' have a leaking float do you, causing the carb to overflow and flood the engine out? I've had this before.

It's bizzare, i'm too far away to come have a look also i'm afraid.

Somethings not right anyway :/ A known working set would be the easiest way to do a quick chop and change and see if it remedies your problem.
