You must remember, track / race bikes require far more att to detail with suspension, on the road, you can get away with a bit more, so im not really interested in the spend £500 - £600, or more in some caes, on a rear shock for my nc30.
Fair enough if you're running a mental spec manx bike but for us normal road going people, the cbr shock is tried & tested as far as im concerned - i wouldnt have even bothered if i didnt think it was any good.
Yes, you IDEALLY need a different spring - £30 - £50 but its not 100% ness.
BUT if you get a 2006 shock, its just 5 years old & its also fully rebuildable etc, etc.
They're not going to fit something as standard equiptment, that wont last for the warranty period & yes, they may not have 2011 motoGP tech but they're no betor, or some old shite chinese shock.
People work on a budget & for what you get with an R6 or cbr shock, its good value & you can then afford to buy a spring etc.
@ the end of the day everyone will go which ever way they can afford, im pretty sure we'd all love an all singing, all dancing ohlins but in all honesty, for the road, i would have no idea what to do with it.
People in race teams that dont comprimise will always tell you fitting a shock from 1 bike to another is no good, as they have high end stuff thats for the bike they're working on - far too many people have done swaps & yes, as i said & other have also, there are some issues but these can be over come for not alot of money but i suppose it all depends on what you have to start with.
I have a few nc30's, on my main bike, i have a 1500 mile, standard, nearly brand new, late spec showa shock - set up to my weight & its brillaint but as you cant just go & get a brand new shock any more with-out spending alot of money, on my other bikes, ive gone the cbr route.
The details of how to do it & what to do with it, have all come from people who have them fitted & use them every day, im happy to trust what they say & seeing as ive only spent £70 on 2 cbr shocks, im happy with the outlay so far & what will be needed, to get them to a good standard for fitment & use.
