I have done it.....4 years ago and never had a problem. I've never even have an smidgen of petrol coming out of the tap with the tank off but just incase I have a dry break coupling to install anyway.

Biggest thing is to make sure you always turn it off, fit and use the dry break. Personally I'm not sure I could and so wouldn't bother unless I was actually running into problems.

If you fit the dry break you don't have to turn the tap off, the coupling won't allow fuel to come out.

Once you get your head around the fact that you could bust your engine next time you go to start it, you religiously remember to unhook the fuel line!

LOL, I don't think you're meaning to try to teach me how to suck eggs but it comes across that way I was running into problems at high RPM even before I went to an open carb setup hence the fuel tap mod. Fuel tap always turned off when the bike wasn't running and oil level checked every week. I think if I had a problem it would have blown by now seen as it's done over 15000 miles since I did the fuel tap.

Small update. As I'm skint at the moment and therefore can't afford to do anything major I thought I may aswell get on with the things that I needed to get done that don't cost much to do! I've made an airguide out of 1mm thick plastic to help improve and smooth the airflow to the scoop and top radiator. I'm not sure if it'll make any difference but it's in the RC30 HRC F-1 manual so it's worth a try

The airguide should improve the air flow to the box, at least in theory; regardless, it looks good!
Q: What's the second bottle for (the one on the left)?

That one is the fuel catch bottle.

The rc30 manual also shows a plate on the inderside of the bottom yoke to smooth airflow, are you up to it?

Ahh, but that'll be the 89 manual. The 91 manual does away with the plate and uses the plastic board instead LOL
