ouch thats over a kilo heavier than the standard wheel, with tyre that wouldnt be so bad but still that is a heavy wheel

That´s just the rim, std ducati, not a forged or race wheel... don´t know about vfr750 wheel, but I guess it has a pretty similar weigh.
The 3spoke triunph 17x6 I had for a couple of days weighed more or less the same too.

just joking I understand with wheel being bigger it will weight a fair bit more, but if your just looking at the technical side of it are the gains from a wider wheel going to be good enough to oversome the disadvantage of a heavier wheel? I dont no personally and have no experiance on it im just asking. but if you mainly did it for the looks (looks shit hot IMO) then fair play and unless you tracking the bike and against the stop watch ul hardly notice the difference

The main reason for using this rim size is to fit 165/55/17 kr108 slick tyres.
If you look at http://www.dunloptyres.co.uk/ourTyres/m ... otorcycle/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , you will find them at the 250cc section.These tires have a 5.5 to 5.25 rim size fitting spec. I have seen them fitted to a 4.5 std. rim... and the guy who had them on told me they worked fine. But when I mesured the actual tyre width at its fitting point, there was a big difference ( you can guess... 1" difference, tyre width vs. rim width). So decided it was best to fit it on a proper rim.
I really whish it would have been a lighter rim, as you can imagine, but it is quite diffi... I mean expensive, to have it all.
I will definitely like to have my bikes fitted like Michael Ruehl´s, just like many others around this forum I guess, but lifes tough mate!!! I try my best.
