Yes there are many guides, its covered in the carb guide i believe, but just the other day i posted up some instructions on float hiegh settings, use the search function.

fuel will leak out of the overflow pipe or from around the flot bowls if the gakset has gone.

get the carbs off, stand them on some newspaper and fill them with fuel from a long pipe with a funnel in it to give some fuel pressure.

leave for an hour and observe leaks.

I seem to have run into a probably, the top of the one pilot jet was a bit broken and I further mangled it up in my attempt to get it out. What would be my best option to get it out?

Use the proper tools.

Um, I used a flat screw driver. What should I have used?

I've been really busy but managed to get the bike back together, so here's my findings.

Main jets were back to front, swapped them around. Cleaned out everything thoroughly with carb cleaner and compressed air, replaced a mangled pilot jet. Put it back together and sounds even worse now, particularly when off the choke, throttle seems to lag or be unresponsive some what and returns some what slowly back down, seems to rev fine in the higher rpm range.

Any ideas and thoughts on what next?

what were the carb rubbers like(the ones on the engine inlet ports)these are prone to perishing and not sealing when you take carbs of then fit them back on.its all trial and error unfotunatly chap!!

They seemed to be in good condition, possibly replaced not too long ago by the previous owner, they weren't cracked or brittle, carbs went in without tooo much hassle. I also sprayed carb cleaner around the ports while it was running to make sure theres no air leaks.

ah righty ho...well if its running even worse maybe they need a good balancing/setting up just so you know at least its not them.then go for ignition/stator tests.

I did make a deferential carb balancing manometer, I'll connect it up tomorrow and see what it shows. Although when the carbs were out, when I turned the throttle it appeared as if all the butterflies were opening at the exact same time. But I'll give the balancing a go tomorrow.
