Hi,
Thanks for the tip, the thing is, the Vale is lank far from where I stay, so getting the bike there is a mission.
Will hopefully know more from the mech later today.

So I went to see the bike.
It did pop a shim out, front left, the piston did not hit the valve. relief.
the problem now is, they cant find the shim, its not in the sump.
the mech asked me to just be patient as he has one of his guys looking for it with a telescopic camera type tool. as we both agree leaving it in there is a dumb idea and asking for sh1t.
so now i wait.
so I guess this is good news?

Boy you is lucky!,
Make every effort to find the shim though, if it gets mangled in the valve gear then it's a buggered engine. If it gets to the gearbox then you could be in a world of pain if it locks up on you.
I had to strip a newly build fzr race engine once because I found a dowel in the pot I was storing stuff in, turns out it wasn't from the engine, dammed if I know where it came from though!
Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks man, i agree, i will not risk using the bike knowing there is a shim in there.
gearbox locking up threw a bend at high speed could prove fatal to be honest, so not worth it to risk.
Now i hope and pray that he finds it, as he says removing the engine to split the block to find it would be a waste as the labour costs would be more than the bike is worth.
almost out the woods, just gotta keep my fingers crossed.
Keeping my karma good seems to have paid off thus far. :)

Good luck with finding it, been there myself and ended up removing the motor and all covers to find it, spent days looking everywhere only to find it hiding still up top jammed under a rocker arm

Re: Carbs rejetted now wont start
The bike gods smiled on me today, after 8 hours of searching it was found!
It was a little chewed up, so I really did get lucky as it could have really gone badly but I am blessed.
This bike has good karma, it might be that my 2 year old son kisses it on each tyre everytime he sees it (not sure why on earth he does that but I like it lol)
The gent also only charged me for 2 hours labour and the cost of the new shim.
So total cost is R600 (thats less than 45Pounds) all in.
Yay for me, thanks for all the support chaps.
Regards,

Cool well fingers crossed it didnt do any damage as those shims are made out of some pretty tough metal so if its chewed id be concerned your internals may have taken a beating too

Re: Carbs rejetted now wont start
So all seems perfectly fine, bikes runs beautifully and sounds a treat.
I was really lucky on this one, but I think I saved it by doing something about the noise as soon as I heard it before it went bang. I think if it was used for much longer it would have ended in tears.
I am a happy camper, missed my late night rides on my favourite twisty bends.
thanks again for the help gents, I will make time to start a thread on my project build soon.
Chat soon.
