Right, I've spent the day looking at gaskets because that's about all I could find to keep me occupied in the office because no-one broke anything.... Please note that I don't have a fiche that lists the contents of the sets for the NC35 (for some reason they are omitted unlike on the one for the NC30), and have had to assume CMS are correct. Their listings for the 30 match the fiche I have, however.

Both DSS and CMS list set A and B for the NC35 as being unobtanium. CMS lists both sets for the NC30 being so as well. DSS on the other hand simply say the NC30 sets are temporarily out of stock.

According to CMS, ALL the individual parts of BOTH sets for the NC35 are available. DSS, however, list the breather cover gasket as being no longer available.

At the time of writing, DSS supply PATTERN parts for the exhaust valve stem seal, and the exhaust gasket used in the front headers and the rear stubby manifold to header pipes.

Both sets are/were virtually identical, however there are a few exceptions to the contents:

Set A for the NC30 does NOT have the gaskets or O-rings for the coolant pipe and caps in the valley of the engine. it also does NOT have the washers that go under the screws and joint pipe on the cylinder inlet tracts. For the NC30, they are all included in set B.

The water pump cover has a gasket, 19226-KE7-010, listed for the NC30 and an o-ring, 91310-KT8-003, 74.5x2 listed for the NC35. Both are available.

DSS and CMS both list the NC30 sump gasket as being part 11315-ml0-000 and no longer available. The NC35 part is listed as 11315-MR8-900 and available.

The clutch cover gasket is listed as 11394-ML0-010 for the NC30 and 11394-MR8-900 for the NC35. Both are available.

The alternator cover gasket is listed as 11636-ML0-000 for the NC30 and 11636-MR8-900 for the NC35. Both are available, although DSS are temporarily out of stock at the time of writing.

According to CMS and DSS, the gasket for the breather cover for the NC30 is a different part, 12332-ML0-721 and discontinued.

Set A for the NC35 includes the cam cover bolt rubbers, they are not listed in either set for the NC30.

Also, on the money side... going by CMS' prices, a set of everything for the NC35 is roughly 50% less than buying the bits according to their last charged prices for the sets!

And the price is????

Like I said... from the CMS it was about 50% more than the price for all as a set. Roughly £290 for set A, and £90 for set B, for the NC35 from DSS, but takes into account that CMS reckon they can get the breather gasket for about £7. DSS don't list the old prices for the sets, so I can't work out their mark-up. For the NC30, the prices will be different because of the parts which went from being in set B to set A. That's the 5mm sealing washers, coolant pipe cap gaskets, and coolant pipe o-ring, about £14 to switch from set A to B. Neither set for the NC30 has the rubbers that go under the cam cover bolts, and the bike doesn't have a bolt on silencer so no gasket, so lose another £34 from set A. By my maths, that gives an NC30 equivalent as £242 for A and £104 for B. Rather different to £114 and £54...!! CMS' old price for the A+B for the NC35 were the current equivalent of £209 and £56.

As of this morning, DSS have changed their listing for set A and B for the NC30 to unobtanium as well.

Looks like I'll be relying on RO to supply my new set in August then.

Seems odd Honda would ditch the sets considering how popular that NCs are.... :s

I cant remember who it was that recently rebuilt a NC motor with a vesrah gasket kit and was having problems but did they every get to the bottom of it?

Frankly, while I disagree on principle for paying so much OTT for the same things in individual packets as opposed to getting them in a kit, given how many horror stories there are about dodgy gasket kits for bikes, not just 30/35s, for the sake of £100 or so extra I'd rather use OE. If you consider that that is about 2 hours at best of workshop labour rates, the arseache of sorting out any issues due to crap gaskets failing after a rebuild is probably uneconomical even if you do the subsequent work yourself.

Aye it was me and ive completly forgot i said id reply in that thread , Since looking further into the problem and realising i was being a bit of an idiot i have not had any problem whatsoever with the gaskets.

I used valve steam seals, rocker covers, head gaskets, clutch gasket and sump gaskets from the Versah kit. I have done getting on for 1000km on the bike since i rebuilt it and its going flawlessly, not burning any oil or water, good compression and is running very well in general.

The price of the Versah kit was around £160 from Rick oliver who is the only person who sells them in the uk. Would i use them again? Yes definatly, unless i could find a set A or Set B Oem kit because the price of everything seperatly is extortionate.

This summer i have a trackday and a trip to the IOM for the classic TT on the NC30 so if they are going to fail it will be before the end of august id imagine.
