Well, got the wheels back from powdercoaters today. Brammer didnt have the R1 wheel bearings in stock so pick them up next saturday. Looking good.

All didnt go smoothly though  Had to clean some of the coating from the disc mounting surfaces. And 1 of the stainless disc bolts snapped in the wheel! Happened so easy. Had drill it out and re-tap but i got it about half a mm of centre so a disc bolt would go in as the sleeve of the bolt wouldn't line up. Lesson learned - next time get OEM yammy bolts....

Also had to clean some of the powdercoating off where the sprocket carrier overlaps the wheel - the clearance is fag paper thin!!

Ordered one of these tyres for the front - should come sometime this week:

Got it because the rear is available in 150/60 17 which I believe is OEM size?? Will order this when I get back from Europe in mid July.

That works out a bargain £164 for a set of stickies, plus about £20 to fit to loose wheels

Ok. It had a 150/60 ZR17 Continental on it when I bought the bike. The 160/60 Michelin is £4 cheaper - they must sell more of that size. The last tyres I bought from these people were couriered to me from somewhere in Germany - must be the pound/euro exchange rate making them cheap again.

Anyone have tips on the best place to get a 525 chain? Is the std chain a 130link? I am running 15/44 gearing so I guess I need a 115 link chain???

I managed to get both new Renthal sprockets for a shade under £30 delivered - but the rear is 525. I will check out B&C for the chain, cheers fella ;)

is the front sprocket a 520 then ?
if so, you'll need a 525 chain to match the 525 rear sprocket (and best off with a 525 front sprocket as well )
although you can run a 525 chain on 520 sprockets, as the pitch and roller diameter are the same, the roller width and therefore sprocket width are bigger with the 525 so a 520 chain aint no good on 525 sprockets ;)

good link below

edit: given the fzr has a fairly slack chain when adjusted properly to alow for swinger movement/thickness, any slap/sideways movement on the chain could (although unlikely) cause it to derail ie not good

Rear sprocket is a 525 Hard anodized 44 tooth item I got from Hein Gericke clearance for 18quid delivered. front is a renthal 15 tooth 520 sprocket. I am going to put another sprocket washer behind the front sprocket just to push it away from the casings a bit.

Got the R1 ignition barrell fitted today and got it wired in to the 3TJ connector block so it looks OEM  the steering lock is close to working...but just doesn't. Oh well I didnt have to mod the lower stops so something has to give.

Got the choke cable hooked up with the new lever. Tried to fit the airbox.......ffs thats a job and a half!!! I think my airbox stubbs have shrunk! No way can I get the airbox onto the carbs  Do I need to put a bit of grease on the stubbs, help em slip over?? Althought the parts book says they are all the same part number, 2 of mine have a number '1' marked on them and the others have '2' marked on them...........the mytery deepens!

try the front renthal sprocket on the spline first, i had to return mine and get the JT sprocket instead.
the boss on the renthal is thiner than the jt and once you do the nut up and bend the lock washer over the sprocket still moves about
so you'll probably need a spacer on either side to keep the front & back sprockets in line
or get a 525 for the front ;)

Yep Hog Dog thats the plan. Picked up the other sprocket washer and front wheel bearings today. The tyre arrived Weds so today I went and got it fitted onto the rim so I could finish the major mechanicals on the front end.

Image

While it was like that I had to fit the top fairing and glad I did. I had to move the lever positions, I found something I could use as a reservoir bracket and sorted that. The speedo cable guide on the fairing subframe needs cutting off as it juuuust fouls the lower fork clamp (rubs on the head of the allen bolts!).

It's coming together

Image

That will prob be all the progress I can do for a while. I have a holiday, then save for rear tyre and more parts. I do have a 2002 R6 headers I could try to cut and fit though.......

Ta for now

Chris
