Re: Kieran's rolling restoration.
Set up my spare set of carbs to Cammo's guide this week and spent a few hours cleaning them up, they look really nice and free of grime now i know nobody is going to know they are so clean but i do and thats all that counts for me.
Anyway got them installed they went on suprisingly easy, started cranking the engine over expecting it to take a few seconds to fill the carbs up with fuel but nothing after about 10 seconds i thought bugger what have i messed up!
Sat down next to the bike for a few mins looking at it thinking im going to have to get them off and have a look to see whats wrong, then it clicked i had left the fuel tap off like a moron so i flicked it to "on" pressed the starter and it fired up in about 3 seconds and onto a lovely flat idle so much for having the balance them.
Warmed her up and thought id go for a quick spin down my local windy test road to see how good/bad a job id done and i could notice the diffrence withing 20 meters throttle response was so much better and the flatspot, what flatspot?? Gone, maybe the tiniest little hitch but thats it.
The bike felt like it had so much more power driving out of the bends and right up the top end it felt alot stronger. I think im going to get the bike dyno'd to see what its putting out now, in may last year it had 59 bhp so i think it may be up to around 61-62. Replaced the fuel hoses too while i was there old one was looking fine but whats the point in taking the risk for 5 or 6 pound from Rick-o also swapped the phillips head screws on the bowls and covers for allen head ones and i changed the bowl gaskets.
So thats all of the mechanicals on the bike sorted now, now its time to focus on the cosmetics, im going to get the bike painted in the TT-F3 RWB scheme that i decided on a few months back. Strip everything down just after my birthday in October, so hopefully i will have the bike back together by next March.
Sorry for the long winded post bit i thought id write a bit more to make up for the lack of pictures today.
EDIT for photo's
New screen stock shape

New pinch bolts, Cleaned the clutch perch, and new clip ons.

Cleaned and polished carbs

Compared to the old set of carbs

Re: Kieran's rolling restoration.
Decided to take my NC off the road to start the stripdown on saturday because my rear tyre is really low on tread no point buying a new one just for a few days riding over the next month so heres a few photo's:
The last photo of my NC out and about in the Castrol scheme, something got in the way of my bike though

Started getting the fairing off

Needs a scrub

Clocks and lights off

Soon to be sand blasted and resprayed

And these are a few nice bikes that my friends club invited me along to see with the tricolore on sat

Thanks, i may be getting a set of tidy type one panels so the tt-f3 colours arent 100% yet, however i will be buying a RC30 style seat unit to go on, with HRC gold wheels and a mercury twinstack (if i can find one) i may see about fitting the sponsorship decals from the scheme at some point though without laquering over them but i may sack that incase i damage the paint.

Re: Kieran's rolling restoration.
Got a bit more done since my last post:
All bodywork off

Subframe and undertray off

Soon to be blasted and painted

Cant wait to drop the motor out and get this all cleaned up

Soon to come apart and be cleaned and zinc plated

Been having a look at which parts are still available on david silvers and ordered a new rear wheel nut and sidestand rubber, its suprising how much is still actually available to buy.

Re: Kieran's rolling restoration.
Been pretty busy over the last 2 weeks, engine is ready to come out once i get hold of the castelated socket to do it and ive been buying a few bits:

Tidy set of lowers

Sidestand rubber and rear wheel nut cover (was sposed to be the actual nut but i am a mong and put the wrong code in)

Freshly painted rear brake hose guide, mine was broken

R/H fairing and wiring brace to replace my twisted one.

Set of decals for the scheme, any anoraks like me out there will spot that they arent original, slight diffrences especialy with the force V4 decals that might put me off fitting them. But the others look pretty good they are curved to suit the shape of the fairing too.
Also bought a decent top yoke nut to replace my old one that had been tightened with a screwdriver by some idiot
Got a few bits back from the blasters and my painted clock mount.

I cant find a Zinc platers round here to save my life so i may buy a kit off ebay to do it myself or have to post them away to a professional place.

much better than before.

Made a start on the exhaust.
Have just sent off the:
Original brake calipers
Subframe
Sidestand
Forks
Few other bolts brackets and bits
all to be blasted and painted up in original type one colours, so should have another nice haul coming in soon. This is beginning to move away from a race rep and more towards a completly standard resto, im even having second thoughts on the gold wheels! Still looking for a mercury twinstack to go on it though!
