Re: still not idling right
I'd best check that I'm getting a spark at the plugs themselves though' I just assumed it would be ignition when I took the ht leads off and it made no difference, if no sparks it could be the icu I guess failing that its back to carbs one other thing though : when disconnecting the fuel hose from the tank I always seem to get petrol spilling out, maybe there's a blockage somewhere? I need a spare set to try!

Re: still not idling right
Its not sparks
Just checked what I should have domne bloody ages ago
Took each rear plug out in turn and each one has anice regular spark
The front pipes get hot very quickly the rears don't get warm at all
So it must be carbs, but both rears at the same time????
Any thought, suggestions please?

It must be carbs, i dont wanna teach you how to suck eggs but get the carbs on a bench, strip down and keep all components in order of their respective carbs then swap your float, needle and needle seat from front to back. reassemble and see if the problem now shifts to the front.

These 'kin carbs are a right bastard.
Mind you I'm supposed to be working so it may be a while before I get back on the case

Re: still not idling right
Work?? i havent done anything but fuck about with carbs the past week lol
I think you should get another set of carbs, even if you just borrow a known WORKING set just to put your mind at rest. I borrowed a set that turned up this morning, fitted them on and bingo, one perfectly running bike.

Re: still not idling right
Its a good plan, however I don't know anyone who'll lend me a known working set, I don't really want to buy a "new" set, Graeme France will sell me a set of reconditioned ones for £92 delivered, which I have to say is very very tempting, but I don't really want to spend out even more cash on what is fast becoming an expensive ornament. I only bought this thing as a low cost replacement for my hornet 600, low cost my arseDrunkn Munky wrote:Work?? i havent done anything but fuck about with carbs the past week lol

Re: still not idling right
lol yes NC's are fickle beasts but so rewarding when running right. When i rode mine yesterday for the 1st time in months its such a good feeling even if it wasnt 100% right.
£92 is a bit steep but if there garanteed working then i think id be tempted. you can pick them up all day long for £50 but spend weeks faffing about only to realise you now need to spend £50-£100 putting them right.

Re: still not idling right
Just watched your vid on the if i have to etc thread, it does indeed sound familiar! Not sure what to do now, strip down again, or bite the bullet and spend £92Drunkn Munky wrote:lol yes NC's are fickle beasts but so rewarding when running right. Re: still not idling right
Right, now I am bloody confused and pissed off, this fecking bike is going in the skip
Took carbs off yet again! Swapped float needle valves and seats from front to back, cleaned jets, checked float heights, bloody everything looks perfect.
Put carbs back on, I'm getting good at this now, I've had so much bloody practice, start it up and NO CHANGE, the front pipes still get hot the rear ones are cold
I am getting sparks, albeit weak looking, so I changed the plugs front to back again and it still runs OK at the front so it ain't plugs. I put a screw driver in each rear HT lead in turn and held it near the frame, I get a stream of blue, from both rears no problems.
So I'm pretty sure it isn't an electrical issue.
The only thing that isn't the same is the hose from fuel tap to tee piece, the old one was leaking, I couldn't get a replacement and just used a standard length of fuel hose from the local autofactor, its not shaped like the original amd heavier wall, could it be pushing the fuel pipe from the tee to the rears up in some way such that fuel doesn't reach the rear carbs? Clutching at straws!!!!
Ideas on a postcxard please to:
Confused and bemused

Edit: Its not the fuel hose as I just ran it with a gravity feed/funnel arrangement and no change
Jeeez I'm running out of ideas
