yeah just had a quick scan at ebay they are NC23 calipers, so as i have now got option open to me i am on the look out for either a complete set of VFR forks or RVF forks, tho tempting to get ZXR forks and a RO kit.

I wouldn't bother.

It's purely 'cosmetic'

Get some later NC30 forks (1990 onwards) there cartridge type and have multiple adjustments.

You can get a set of them and refurb them with new fork seals for pennies compared to a ZXR conversion (will need the ZXR wheel and mudguard etc)

The 4 piston NC30 calipers will just bolt right on then and providing the brakes are services (new seals and clean the pistons and some decent pads) and it'll stop on a penny :-)

Yeah did a search on here about the conversion and most said it looks nice, but has no real benefit so for the cost of it i'll bin the idea off, think i'll have to source a set of late vfr forks.

Found a cheap rvf MC and Caliper set, will rvf calipers fit straight onto vfr forks? or is there a mounting kit available, i know RO does a mounting kit for CBR600RR calipers to the NC30 forks, are the mounting holes the same for VFR and RVF forks? Have had a quick search but struggling to find a definate yes no answer.

Any help much appreciated, and anyone with some forks or sliders available gimme a bell.

RVF and VFR calipers have different fitment. The RVF calipers are the same as on early blades and firestorms.

If you got brackets to fit RVF calipers, then you may as well get on the bigger Nissins from the SP1/Blade/CBR6 FX or RR.

I suspect Geoff33 might have some forks.. He has a few bits usually!

Yeah i thought that was the case as RO dosent sell mounting kits for the RVF forks as i guess everything fits the forks straight off.

Seems odd that somebody has swapped the lowers on my bike for cbr sliders!!

Do CBR400 have a smaller diameter stancion on the fork area that goes through the yokes then, or would these forks be able to go straight into a cbr400?? dont want to sell something that isnt right!!

Options as i see it are as follows.

GF nc30 race forks set up for my weight
2nd hand complete set of nc30 forks service and RO spring kit
2nd hand nc30 lowers
and get either sp1/2 cbr600rr3 calipers and mounting kit or just vfr calipers.

Best fire up ebay i guess!!

Are you sure somebody hasn't put a complete set of cbr400 forks on?

cbr400 and nc30 are both 41mm forks.

yeah was thinking that as i wrote, but i haven't taken them in bits yet so unsure, if they are CBR400 forks can you tell without taking them in bits? I know the length of the fork in total is 750mm.

If they are CBR400 they are for sale as i wanna put VFR400 forks and calipers back on, would love sp1/600rr3 but cant afford.

with the combination of bad weather and me damaging my knee my motocross seems to have taken a bit of a back seat at the min, which has left me a bit of time to dismantle my NC30.

Front wheel bearing taken out and to be honest they felt fine but for the cost of them they can have new ones in, dismanteled the rear hub to inspect all the splines and bearings and again all looks in really good order, i'll pack some grease in there and then put it back together and it should be good to go.

The forks have proved a bit of a pain, just taken them in bits to see whats in there was hoping it had the late type forks as it should have given its age (1992 spec bike according to frame) but sadly not.

Bit puzzeled as to whether these are early vfr non cartridge forks with cbr sliders on, or just cbr forks, i do think they have been modified and i was told that they had maxton intenals, can anybody confirm??

bit unsure what to do, thinking get a stock set of vfr cartridge forks then either put the sliders onto these forks to allow me to use the vfr calipers, or if i can stretch to it sp1 calipers etc, or sell these once identified as vfr or cbr internals and send the late cartridge forks to maxton/GF??

took the water pump off and its pretty rank with a build up of crap thats pretty much blocked the bore of the pipe!!! anybody got any tips how to flush the engine of all this crud??

Looking at the weather for this weekend its looking like another no go for the motox, was wanting to go practicing, so looks like i can have a saturday with the NC30 again.

All help appreciated

A quick one - but they are early forks and modified by someone in the know.

Perhaps, for whatever random reason, the prev owner fitted cbr sliders to the modded vfr forks.

I'd get some sliders - I reckon jetblack on here might have some as I sold him a complete set of forks and his were suffering knackered stanchions...

Hey mate, you can't fit rvf calipers to vfr forks using Rick Oliver's adapter plates.

I got hold of a cheap set of rvf calipers and was planning to do this for a budget build of mine, ended up having to get 600rr/sp1 calipers. The rvf calipers foul on part of the adapter plate, even though they're the same mounting hole distance as the 600rr/sp1 calipers.

The nc30 calipers perform well, but mine needed rebuilding (seals and pistons needed $$), it was cheaper to get hold of a good used set of sp1 calipers. Plus they look nice in gold... :roll:
