Take it you're in no mad rush? I'm off to spain for a week in a couple of days. Anyone else want me to ask while I'm at it?
Cost wise it was peanuts to me because my dad does bits for him etc but I'd still imagine it to be reasonable.

Tappered shock springs are available, i was going to get one and i cant find the link someone sent me for one but im certain it was one of the major suspension places that do em, MCT maybe?

Well I rang maxton and k tech neither could do it. Faulkner would make one as special order but it was easier quicker and cheaper to just get the collar knocked up and use the spring I already bought.

Im in no rush, so just come back to me when you know.
As far as the springs go, Tony, if you can find out where you get the other type of spring from, that'd be well handy but i'll still be interested in the collar.
Im also looking @ getting an R6 rear shock as well & seeing what can be done there - ive already got another undertray on the way.
Also just ordered a pair of spring compressors too, so i'll be set for a bit of playing around.

Its also worth noting that early models of the shock pictured have a longer res which wont fit as the shorter one touches the side panel as it is.
Not test rode mine yet but it seems ok
The GSXR shock is an easier fit (if thats possible) but ive heard it needs a different spring otherwise its way out.
yep i have a gixer rear shock and with a firmer spring its still way out even if you play with damping and rebound the valves are just wrong as the dimensions of the linkage is way off the mark on the nc30

Re: Fitting a CBR600 rear shock to an NC30
Ive now got the early & late cbr600rr rear shocks, the early 1 (03-04) is better made as far as im concerned but the later shock (05-06) is a much better fitting item due the the entire top being a different size, its not just the res thats different.
If someone wants to post them, i can send someone the pics of both.

Re: Fitting a CBR600 rear shock to an NC30
Thats a common misconception. I'm building (slowly) a track/race NC30 so obviously I was looking to upgrade the suspension on my bike. Whilst having some suspension work carried out on another of my bikes, I asked Gareth at Reactive Suspension (John Reynolds suspension guy in his 2004 BSB championship winning season) about fitting a shock from another bike to my NC30. Although it was a while ago and I'm far from a suspension expert so a lot went over my head, the long and short of the conversation was, that although something like a CBR600RR or GSXR shock will fit and is newer technology, the standard of suspension components that come on bikes from the factory is poor (it's one of the areas the manufacturers see as an opportunity to save money) so they're not really worth spending any money on and given that to get the donor shock to perform even as well as a new OE NC30 shock would require the correct weight spring and to change the valving for the NC30, it's not worth doing.Cammo wrote: In saying that though, I'm keen to fit a standard late model shock to my road nc over winter, it has to be an improvement in many areas over a 20+ year old shock that has never been serviced.
On Gareth's advice I sought out a second hand WP shock from ebay. It turned out to be for a CBR600RR, which, as we've established in this thread, will fit an NC30, so you're all probably all thinking thats where the story ends, no problem then? I ended up spending almost as much as the shock cost me, on having the valving changed so it would actually work on my NC30! I was unfortunately mis sold something on ebay, and perhaps the guy who sold me it never new the shock was never intended for a VFR400 and although it cost a fair bit to get it sorted, it's money well spent in my eyes and will be worth it in the end. My shock is a fully rebuildable, high quality component that will outperform any standard shock and will retain decent amount of it's original value should there come a time that I wish to sell it so my advice to anyone thinking about changing their bikes suspension would be to go for an aftermarket shock otherwise your wasting your money.

Re: Fitting a CBR600 rear shock to an NC30
kinda getting round to your way of thinking johnny wishbone. for example i have an aprillia rs250 shock on my uk bike bought from a fellow forum member riley who had it rebuilt revalved resprung etc to suit an nc30 perfectly happy with it for what it cost me and it works well on the bike but would never go down that route again when you factor in the cost of doing it from scratch .old used rs250 shock £50-£90 then rebuild cost inc new spring say £100-£150 plus modifying top mount and knuckle to fit nc30 would rather spend the extra involved in getting a brand new nitron thats designed to work specificly on each bike and every component is new.
anyone looking for a cbr600 shock ? given up on idea now
