Re: Project track dog! Getting less doggy!
Hi all, after Cadwell ive decided to see if i can get abit more power from the old girl.
First up i bought an engine from CMSMJ1 (Cheers mate) which has had a little bit of headwork done to the heads, nothing major just a clean up etc.
I stripped these from the motor and once off i then inspected the valves etc and ive also removed the quietening gears from the cams for good measure.

Once happy i then started to remove the heads from my bike and here she is as she stands at the moment until my headgaskets etc arrive.

Also been looking into running a HRC style carb set-up so hopefully will be back together shortly to see what gains there are.

Do you know if they are a straight swap? Would they be ok with my vfr heads?

Its a common upgrade for 30 engines, and 29's i think too.

Re: Project track dog! Getting less doggy!
Tonight i started my home brewed HRC carbs. Obviously this is not going to be a pukka set-up as everyone knows the original bellmouths, slides etc are very rare not to mention the price they command when they come up.
First up i bought a set of standard carbs as if this all goes tits i know i can always return to my originals. Once these were sourced i stripped them and cut down the standard bellmouth like so

Now the proper HRC stacks have a little flap that covers a little brass air tube and mine wont have this so i then tapped the tube to take a 6mm bolt. The bolt will have a 3mm (for starters) hole through the middle to restrict airflow. Once up and running i will bring sets of bolts with me to the dyno with various sized holes in them (2,2.5,3.5 etc) to see what size the bike runs best with. Obviously i tapped the holes with the carbs upside down so the brass swarf doesn't enter the carbs.

And then finally tonight i drilled the airbox tray.

More to come over the next few days.
