To clear it up...

If you wanted to go racing in superbike or world endurance and wanted to run a Honda what you did was buy a new RC45 from your local dealers and then purchase the HRC race kit (either a superbike kit or an endurance one). You could either buy a whole kit or just the parts you thought you needed.

There was pretty much two kits, one which used stock suspension and the other that used Kit. It's very rare to see a full kit bike as many liked the ohlins suspension better as well as being easyer to get. The same goes for the wheels and disks.

Most teams purchased the engine power up kit, electrics kit and air box and then had their own yokes, wheels and brake combos made up to suit the more commonly used Ohlins forks. When you see a kit '45 for sale this is normaly what you see.

This bike is fitted with the full kit though so it has the HRC engine power up kit as well as the forks, swinging arm, wheels etc etc. This is how Honda intened the RC45 to be if you were to go racing in endurance.

It is a cracking bike indeed...and while we are splitting hairs I have to agree with Spike about the replica situation.

Unless the bike has provenance and can prove it was involved in the racing then regardless of the authenticty of the kit is is a replica rather than a bona fide "race bike" (if only for the disctinction that it never actually raced)

Of course, if this frame was used and it was proven then this wordplay would not matter.

I like the kit forks and brakes idea - they are Showa items aren't they Stephen? Do you have a gallery where we can have a good old close up gander at the bike as it was and how it came to be like it is?

I would imagine Rhory has a personal gallery for his own private entertainment..but we can do it with clothes on..lol

Hope to see this in the flesh, either with Devon/Cornwall ride out and a sneaky V4 dyno run or at a trackday sometime. Would imagine it makes sweet music when going full beans :o

+ 1 on all counts

Just because I have eggs, flour, milk, sugar and butter, doesnt mean I'll have a sponge cake does it?

And if it quacks and it waddles, it still doesnt make it a duck ;)

Gorgeous none the less, minus the tubes (my opinion). And I would gladly rape kill or steal to own that bike, but its still a replica.

A couple of things,

First I never said it really raced. I said it was 1995 8hr spec, which it is.

Second, Personaly I wouldnt call it a replica. It is a genuine 1994/5 RC45 with genuine 1995 race kit. So that would lead me to think its a genuine 1995 race kit RC45. If I had made the frame ad had forks made to copy a 1995 RC45 then it would be a replica, but no part isnt genuine (well apart from the front brake res bottle but you cant find everything you want can you?)

The other fact is every single race rc45 was built this way excetpt the factory ones. You could not buy a kitted RC45, you had to build it yourself, so from that very point every single race RC45 is a replica of the very first prototype.

The paint work is a replica of a bike used in the 8hr, the bike its self is as genuine as any RC45 gets.

Just my veiws on the subject mind.

I am not picking at it Stephen. It is just a wording thing to me and irrelevant that it is your bike we are talking about.

However the make up and core of your bike is definitely a special mix and I agree entirely that this is a genuine Kit race bike but, because it was not raced, it is not a race bike...if you see the pedantry I am offering ;) :D

The bike is just quality in the pics and the attention and OCD displayed by going the HRC route rather than Ohlins Brembo etc is cool. In fact is is well nerdy but we all have our vices :ugeek:

If you come doa TD local I will dive down for a look see... :geek:

Send it to me, I'll race it, and then you can call it an ex-"race" bike. ;)
