GK76 Engine overhaul-What do you recommend?

For a set of yamamoto they fit particularly well.
Do you have any issues with the sump?
The water pipe and the radiator you can relocate.
With the rad you need to watch for front wheel clearance under braking.

Usually just tierap the pipe to the frame rail. The bike is looking real nice, i promise to post some pictures of the gk73a rebuild, ive pictures but no time.

No issues with the sump but I'm running into real trouble clearing the radiator. I thought I could get a couple of mm space by bending the brackets a bit but no such luck. Once I tighten everything up it goes right back to its' original position. I'm wondering if I will have to cut the mounts on the bottom of the radiator, slide them back a few mm to kick the bottom of the rad out a little bit. I'm open to suggestions.

I think I solved my radiator clearance problems with a suggestion from a friend to just add a small piece of aluminum to the tabs to get the clearance I needed. I ended up with about 5mm of space.


The old thermostat was rusted pretty badly so I got a used one out of Japan that is in much better shape.


Ah, nothing screams fun like connecting a wiring harness.

If you,ve treated it to a new thermo housing its would be good to put a warmer thremo in aka the factory pro mod that uses a cbr600 f3 thermo, helps with the bottom end as the suzi thermo runs cool.

I haven't heard about that mod. It involves replacing the GK thermostat sensor with an F3 sensor? Is it plug and play or do things have to be modified?

Got the reconditioned muffler back today. I can't believe it is the same muffler and cost wise was cheaper than a new one.


The old baffle was kind of odd that it narrowed down. Maybe to cope with Japan's noise laws?




The strap I had laying around didn't quite work so I'll have to come up with an alternative.

Could you give us some information about any changes you're making to use that new exhaust with your bike?
Have you had to re-jet it, because those headers look like 50mm, whereas the originals narrowed out to what I think is around 43mm?? Given that the pipe is likely more free-flowing, I would have thought that you'd need to up the jetting to compensate? Presumably you have a free-flowing air filter fitted as well?
I'm about to get myself some some 50mm headers to fit a carbon end can, so any info would be helpful.

I wish I could help but I bought this bike as a non-runner so it hasn't been fired up yet since the rebuild. I measured the headers and they are 30mm. The midpipe is 50mm. I think those are pretty standard numbers.


The big worry I have now is, I don't think they are GK76 pipes. Did you notice how low the muffler sits? Looking over pictures on the net, it sits more like a muffler/pipe of 1987 GSXR400. Also look how low the pipe is below the foot peg. Much lower than a normal GK76 pipe.

Anyone want to buy a pipe.....lol.
