Hmmmmm
From what I remember you only need the 4DX CDI unit to de-restrict the 3TJ.
The two larger connectors are identical and are a like for like fit. Then you are left with a small 2or3 pin connector on the 3TJ loom which did go to a connector on the 3TJ CDI. This now plugs into another 'spare' connector on the 3TJ loom. This smaller connector is for the fuel pump. You shouldn't have to cut/rewire anything - at least I didn't when I used a 4DX CDI on my 3TJ.
I ended up selling my 4DX CDI unit when I got a BDK one at a very good price.

The CDI should simply plug into the 3tj loom. There are less wires into it though.
The 3tj speedo has wires that plug into it, that's the restriction, but theres nothing in the 4dx clocks so just leave them loose.

Regarding putting the 4DX cdi on a 3TJ does anyone know if the SP's run a different ignition map to the stock 3TJ's?

Thanks for the quick response.
The 2 CDI's have moulded sockets that match so no problem with those connectors. Between the moulded socket is a fly lead on both. Off of this lead are 3 connects. Both have a four pin block connection 2 x 2. Both have a single bullet connector. The 3rd connector is where the difference is. The 3TJ unit has a single line 3 pin block connector. The 4DX unit has a small block connector that has the female end of a spade connector. Do I leave this one detached?

If i get time tomorrow i'll take a pic of how i did mine but i dont remember it being difficult, from memory you take the 3 pin connector on the bikes loom, 1 of the wires will match the single wire coming from the 4DX cdi so just snip that from the 3 pin plug and connect it to the single wire from the cdi.

As Drunken says it's pretty straight forward, I don't remember how I did mine.
There was a test on different CDI's on one thread, I think it's thought that the SP revs faster but it could be down to the SP engine as well as the CDI

Ok plugged in the 4DX CDI and left the 3 pin connector off of the fly lead loose. Bike now revving to 14000rpm in all gears and 180kmh restriction removed

. As the connectors on the 4DX clocks didn't match the 3TJ loom, I removed the speedo internals from the 4DX clocks and put them in the 3TJ clocks to do away with the mph dial overlay.
Bendy3 your modified CDI, will a stock engine rev OK to 15600rpm? Or does additional work need to be carried out to rev this high?

You have clocks with a mph dial, so I'd assume this is a road bike ?
There isn't much more to come from a standard road engine above the red line. The SP has a lighter valve train which allows it to rev quicker and a little higher but I imagine its more of an over run than anything else

Does anybody know the difference between the 3TJ70, 71 and 72 KIT cdi units?
I bought a 3TJ70 through ebay this week.
