i had bought the torque wrench from bnq for the rear wheel nut. as it requires 120nm. i was stupid enough to think about the smaller bolts. but ohwell. what i mean by the valves is the cam covers..im still getting confused by the terms of some of the components on the engine....the cover where the spark plugs go etc its kind of in the way to the exhaust headers. ....and im trying to install the gaskets to the small manifold to the engine part..which is a cunt of a job to put it. hence why im going to the mechanics to get it done.

you need to be doing it from behind! *smutty jokes ahoy

if you are trying to get these done from above the bike you have no chance...

Click types actually need to be set to 20% of their max setting To keep the spring correctly tensioned. Each to their own though, they all still work, I'm just not a fan of having to get it re-calibrated if you leave it on a torque setting for a month by accident. costs $100 to re-calibrate the click type in Australia.. The deflecting beam doesn't need calibration provided it's stored in its case.

As for doing the exhaust gaskets on the rear head.. Did you remove the right hand side foot peg and heat shield? You will have no chance otherwise. If you're doing all the exhaust gaskets, then obviously remove the entire system from the bike, then you can get to the rear header pipes easier. You need a universal and extension in order to get to them, but it's possible, just have to be patient and turn them the correct way. They are not tight, so it isn't difficult.. Honestly, don't take it to a mechanic, it's a waste of money. The mechanic won't know how to do it either and will take an hour just figuring it out.

If you do goto the mechanics try and watch them do it if they don't mind.

It's an easy job to do.

Remove the exhaust heat-shield and brake footpeg for super easy access to the stubby manifold.

A dab of silicon sealer (bathroom sealant etc) will hold the gaskets in place and stop them falling out while you line things up.

Failing that a dab of copper slip will hold them in place too, think that's what I used. Stinks for a bit when it all gets burned off but meh. I remember when I did my exhaust and coated all the back of the engine in WD40 that I soaked the rear manifold studs in, when I first started the bike up and white smoke came pouring off the engine block I shit myself. Took it up the road to test it with the oil burning off the engine casing, looked like the dark knight doing a burnout.

i have removed everything.. ive got the whole sub frame removed and rear wheel..i jsut cant adjust the pipes so that it sits in properly....or maybe i have adjusted it. i cannot properly see by looking at it. i do know however that its leaking. maybe i was too scared to tighten it more, since i broke the last stud.

That shows very well the four bolts we are talking about - and you cannot get to them from there?

What tools have you got? You need a 10mm 1/4 inch socket and a small extension piece.

You are not using spanners?? It would all make sense if you were!

okay. a while ago i took off the rear brake lever and all that...i didnt dismantle the master cylinder but just took the lever off etc...and now i forgot how the thing goes on...ive got the footpeg put in..and there is this little part that comes out...its got a hole and it pushes the screw up into the master cylinder right?.. okay..so why does that thing have a hole? does something go inside it? i cannot remember....sorry ive got no pics cause my phone is broken...i hope i made it clear enough to know what im talking about...

yes ive got the right tools :). but urs looks easier as ur is a full system :D my pipes are both joined together with a big clamp. and to get them both right in there at the same time i find pretty hard :\ and oh yeah..my shock is also in the way. if that wasnt in the way it would be much easier.

oh wait...a spring goes there doesnt it.. on the hole...and attachest somewhere on the biike...ahh i think i remember now....correct me if im wrong...
